what are they like as a pet?

Clever, fun, charmingly stubborn, cheerful, loving and good watch dogs.

Of all the dog's we have owned my heart belonged to our yorkie, Barney - he was quite big for a yorkie and so much fun, he was a fantastic watch dog and yapped every time he heard a noise on a night. He was also very loving. We lost him this time last year age 14 - it was problems associated with old age and we made a very difficult decision but I will never forget that dog..cant recommend them enough.
I couldn't have another because it wouldn't be Barney.

Hi Sarah,

I lost my big Yorkie, Moxie, a year ago as well. She was nearly thirteen. I feel the same way. Although I have a lovely Cairn now and am strongly contemplating adding another pooch I am not sure I have the courage to have another Yorkie. Too painful to remember Moxie every time I look in another Yorkie's face. Silly, isn't it.

Hi Stacey, the cairn was probably a good move - funnily enough we considered a cairn too but mum ended up with a collie cross!! Mum also still has a yorkie bitch called Amy she is 12 now and she missed Barney terribly - the new dog is high maintenance :) and keeps everyone busy but little things remind me of him now and then...The other thing I remember about him is that he was very robust, unfortunately he ran out of the front door when he was 10 months old and got hit by a car, we all thought that was it, he needed 2 weeks at the vet but he was right as rain not long after and went on to live a very long and trouble free life from then on.
He was a nut-bar :D

I have a yorkie Emma, he is 3yrs old now and i wouldn't be without him, he follows me everywhere, is very funny, loving and very good with children. He doesn't moult so no dog hairs and is very cheap to feed. My opinion is if you want a cuddly lap dog then the yorkie fits well into that criteria, hope this helps :)

when i was 17 my parents bought tom & jerry, to little brothers. the funniest little friends you could wish for. we lost them at 15 and 17 (tom wandered off one evening in a place he loved and knew so well, 8 years ago this month. we searched for weeks. strangely, he was very unwell and we had decided that he would be pts that very week - we like to believe that he just curled up somewhere and fell asleep - still upsets us all, we would like to know). jerry was pts two years later due problems with his back. i was 34 then, it was hard to believe that i'd known him half my life.
very busy little dogs, full of fun and mischief !.
