Before you start feeding raw, you really need to get hold of one of the books there are on it.

Dr Billinghurst, Give your dog a bone
" " Grow your pups with bones (id recommend this one, as its got more info about skeletal probs/digestion probs)

There are other books, i forget now, errrrr one by Tom Lonsdale? and another by someone called Pitcairn i think.

Its not just raw meat, feed taht and you will have a very sick doggy.....its raw meat, raw meaty bones (ie chicken wings, necks, lamb ribs, most none weight bearing bones), a wide variety of green leafy veg, some fruit, oils (i use Olive oil), fish, offal, eggs, cottage cheese, and i supplement occasionally with Kelp powder and Keepers mix, a herbal powder, and garlic.

Good luck with it, its a great diet, ive got three dogs, one of which i brought up from 6 weeks on the raw diet.

Hello Happyme

I have a Lab bitch who had colitis for four years. We had her on alot of foods and ended up on JWB which stabilised upto a point but not at all totally. I then swapped to Nature Diet Lite (I am unable to feed a raw diet) around four months ago and she has been so good on it since. I have recommended it it to some more people with dogs with colitis and they have had success as well. Maybe worth a try ?

Also for colitis I highly recommend Tree Barks powder (slippery elm) - excellent stuff for slowing it all down and firming up!!!

Hi ive heard of tree barks powder was a bit scared to try it is it really that good?

Yes Tree Barks is really good and you can use it as and when you need it or everyday as it is really quick acting. Probably worth a try, but good luck eventually you will find something to control it, but every dog is different which is why so many people will recommend different things!!

Hi there

I used to have a JR with bad colitis 10 plus years ago - but I was feeding rubbish at that time - Happidog (all grain/soya) believe it or not - I didn't know any better then.

Try the following link for well researched info on colitis and a sample raw food diet to try with your dog. Giving the right food I'm sure will make a difference. Good luck
