Topic Dog Boards / General / Ceredigion Area...West Wales

Hi all,

Don't know if we have many members here from Ceredigion, but thought I'd post anyway.

Reading in our local paper....an adult Alaskan Malamute has been stolen, and also 2 Bassett hound pups have been taken from their mother (Mum left behind) in the last few days.
This happened not long ago here as well, but, it was JRT's and Irish wolfhounds. Are these people stealing to order?
Don't want to alarm anybody....but dog owners/breeders in this area.....please be careful.

Take care

did it mention if the dogs were stolen from breeders or pet owners?
- By xaraworlds [gb] Date 25.08.03 08:57 UTC
Thanx for that ...will keep an eye on mine...and an eye out for the stolen dogs...which paper was that? I didnt see it in the Cambrian News...and which town were they taken from?

Hi all,

It seems the Bassetts were taken from a loose box (stable) which was inside an outbuilding, wasn't a lot of information about whether the owner was a breeder or not.
It also didn't say where the Mal was taken from, it just said 'taken from a property'

Donna, I saw the article in the Tivy Side newspaper, I haven't seen it in the Cambrian news either, which is a bit odd.

I have just found the paper, and the mal wasn't an adult (sorry, my mistake) it was a 4 wk old pup.....so it seems they could all have been stolen from breeders. The mal was taken from Penparc (Aberteifi)
The bassetts were 9 weeks old and from Penrhiwllan. One is a tri coloured dog, mainly black with tan and white points, and the other is a lemon and white bitch.
(any info, it says to phone Cardigan police station : 01239 612 209)

Take care all...and keep your dogs safe.

Wow, we have friends in Penparc - not very far from us at all - very scary. So glad the puppy got home safely - so lucky at only 4 weeks old, to have survived the ordeal unscathed.

Lets hope the Bassetts do too :(
But lucky that the people that had bought the pup were so nice...many wouldnt of taken him back. Definitely 1 lucky puppy!

Thats brilliant news!! It's amazing that the Mal is okay, and what lovely people to take him back to the breeders.

Thanks for the link Melody.

Lets just hope they find the Bassetts now.

It's nice to know that there are some CD members that actually live in or around this area!! What breeds do you have?

Take care

Hiya Donna,

Glad you like the dogs. They drive me mad most of the time, but I love them to bits!!

I also have rescues, I have 3 collie X's. They'll stay with me for the rest of their lives, but I'm hoping, once I get things sorted out up here that I can do more rescue. Hard work, but very rewarding!
Mind you, the vets are getting confused now...whenever I walk in they say...WHICH one is it today??!! (got 7 adults and 3 of the 'P' words at the moment!!)

Talking about vets...are Ystwyth any good? I'm looking for a vet with lots of hip X-raying experience.

Take care.....maybe see you around town sometime!!

Almost forgot...where did you get Spirit from? Was he/she a rescue?

Hi
If you need any help if you do start doing more rescue dont hesitate to ask...im a very willing foster mummy!
Taking these 2 ladies i have here back to go to their new homes today and picking up another couple of babies!
I know what you mean about the vets...same here...who is it today!
Not sure about Ystwyths hip x raying experience ...but they are great in every other way...never wait long in emergency surgery and alway willing to chat if you have any concerns or worries...some very young vets there too as well as the more established ones and they are all really good....

Spirit and Ben were both local results of "accidents" :(

I live in Gloucester and take my dog for his annual check up to the vets in Aberystwyth. My brother lives about 8 miles from there and its where my dog was bred. I feel the care given there is excellent and the staff are great. Vets fees are far cheaper in Wales especially when we take about 10 dogs for vaccinations all at once!
