Have got a nearly 7 yr old labrador bitch who has had 3 litters. She was due to be spayed in february but it was cancelled due to having a dog PTS. Beth is now half way through from her last season (she goes 8 mths) and is wild and unruly. Some people have said DON'T spay now as she may stay like this but my vet says she may have ovarian cysts that are causing her to mount everything and be a little wild!!!!!!!!!! He says I need to spay now or if it is cysts they could cause major problems.
I would prefer to wait til after her next season but what do others think. I am a little nervous about spays due to nearly losing her daughter last yr after a spay that went wrong.
I want to do what is best but the thought of losing Beth scares the hell out of me. If she has cysts and they are going to turn nasty I have no choice. Anyone with any experience of this PLEASE.

Do you trust your vet! that is what matters if he/she are good then i would listen to what he/she is telling me, but you have to be happy with your vet if you are not then find another one, you see if it is the same vet that nearly lost your other bitch then you are going to worry and i would say try another one.
ask your vet if there is any good way of finding out for sure if there is an ovarian cyst, e.g a scan. Obviously this is is expensive, but if you are insured that is not really an issue. I admit i wouldn't be too keen on having it done on the basis of an unconfirmed diagnosis.

Hi
I do trust the vet and no it isn't the same one as nearly lost Beth's daughter. I left that practise after the spay that went wrong!
The vet I use now is well liked by everyone in this area and is very experienced. he has recently done a knee op for another of the labs and some tests on one of the boys. So yes I trust him, having said that I trusted our last vet and had used her for 8 yrs, so nerves wise I think I am always going to panick.
Beth is not insured but that is not the issue as I will find the money whatever. I will ask about the scan. i have this afternoon discussed the fact that if Beth is spayed she might stay in for the night to ensure there are no complications so will have another word tomorrow about different options.
Thankyou

Just to let you know we went for the spay and Beth has been in today. She is now awake and will hopefully be home tonight.

I think you have made the right decision & I'm sure she'll be fine
