Hi, can anyone please help my friends?
They have an 18 week minature pinscher and live above their shop. In the shop their puppy has a pen and they put down paper for it to pee in the pen, and in their flat they have a paper area at the top of the stairs (puppy can only go up but not down the stairs at the mo). It uses the paper in both places to pee but the problem now is that she wont pee anywhere else. She is taken for a walk morning, midday and evening but waits until she gets home to pee on the paper.
They are trying to get her to pee outside by taking paper to the park to put down so she gets used to peeing outside but she wont do it. She is quite hyper and when outside is too busy sniffing, and playing with the grass and generally occupied with anything and everything going on around her, so trying to get her to pee on the paper is proving impossible.
Yesterday we all went to the Edenbridge and Oxten country fair and she went 6 hours without peeing despite numerous paper attempts! She waited until we got back to the car and we put paper down in the boot and closed the door and she went then.
The other day they took her for a walk but again she waited until she got back to the car and on their way home she peed on C's lap!
Can anyone suggest anything that might change this habit?!
Thanks :)

Do they use a word when she pee's? I use "hurry up" with Monty when he is doing his business and when I want him to do it. He then gets lots of praise and cuddles. I use it when we are out walking and it takes about 5 mins but he goes.

lol ive got a pup called Monty too! (common name)
This does seem to be a common problem with dogs that are paper trained, i didnt want to risk this sort of behaviour so from day one i kept taking him outside...
There are a couple of solutions for them, one would be to gradually move the paper closer to the area they want her to go, so for example move it from the top of the stairs to the bottom, and then in to the next room, and then the next eventually ending up outside and in the meantime keep taking her outside and using the command - Sam uses 'hurry up' i use 'wee wees' its up to them what they choose but they must be consistant about it, once she does her wee out side give her a treat, but no treats for inside, she will soon learn that treats happen when she does her stuff out there :)
Another way (if they can spare the time and dedication) is to get rid of the paper all toghther, almost go back to basics....every hour probably at her age take her into the garden and use the command, if nothing happens give her 10-15mins and try again, she cant hold it in forever...if she has an accident inside simply place her outside and give the command, clean the area well and continue....
I used the above method from day one and when he was 2 and a half months old he had learnt that sitting by the back door meant he could go out to do his stuff which meant a treat! :)
Good Luck To Them :)

I use hurry up as it is slightly less embarrassing when we are out on a walk :)

lol, Ahhhhhh - I wanted this pup to only do his stuff on command, generally i only let him do it in the back garden which means that i can take him into town or anyother 'people place' and he will simply walk beside me......:D i suppose it might sound a bit odd walking round saying wee wee's :)
