Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Would we suit a Bearded Collie?

From what I've seen and heard about Bearded Collies, I'd love one! I'm just wondering if we'd be a suitable family? We have a two yr old boy (a good boy!) and a cat. We do, however, live in the countryside (Derbyshire)and also have an enclosed garden and lots of love and time to give!

Sounds as if okay to me, Bearded Collies do like to be on the go my friend breeds them and shows and brings them to my obedience club they work really well, the coat needs to be brushed each day but they make great family pets.

I have a beardie and he is great :) He's 16 weeks and is just starting to moult but if groomed every day its not too bad. Great dogs if you like high energy and are not in the least bit house or garden proud :)
Also highly intelligent (well, thats what they tell me but I havent seen any intelligence yet!!) and good with kiddies.
They do like long walks and get bored easily though.

They really are lovely dogs, but a friend who has 2 finds herself bathing them often just to get rid of the mud they pick up on say, a winter walk or a wet spring

As long as you aren't too houseproud, don't mind wet beards, like bouncy dogs and are happy to groom (not just for aesthetics but because they pick up bracken, and goodness knows what which can snarl in the coats very quickly) then I'd say go for it :) ;)
