I treated him yesterday morning (monday) but it is still there, also i put some vasoline on the tick as i was told this suffercates them. Anyone with any suggestions please. thankyou

I found it hard to get some of mattie last year so be very careful with this but
I heated a needle and pushed it through the tick it let go but make sure you dont stab your dog or try surgical spirit.
Also fronline your dog get some from the vets and steer clear of fields which have had sheep in them .

Hi there
you can buy a little plastic tick remover from any good pet shop. My dog has only ever had one tick but the tick remover did the trick.

i tried it with the surgical spirits but nothing happened so i tried the needle but when i started to do it my basset fred pulled away leaving i think the mouth of the tick in. i bathed it but it was very sore, he seems to be ok today but i can feel somethink hard where the tick were so i am thinking that the mouth is still in. Will it be ok to leave alone but keep my eye on it, and can he catch anything from having this tick. Thanks

I had the same problem. I accidentally picked the ticks body off and left the head in. I could feel it (hard).
Buddy's tick was on his back so i was able to poke around. I eventally got the head out very gently with some tweezers. It's removal left a small hole which i clean with antiseptic a couple of times a day. It's healed well. The thing is, i could not understand how the tick had survived because i'd treated Buddy with Frontline 'spot on' only the week before.
Horrible little critters are'nt they.

I'm glad to hear someone else has found this, I've never had much success with.

Tick tweezers are available from Pets at Home etc. Or use your fingers... . Unscrew the tick (without pulling too much) anticlockwise....works with French and German ticks....dunno if Brit ones are different. Frontline/Stronghold will kill the tick once it's on the dog (keeps it small so ironically more difficult to remove) but they do still attach.

Hi
Bob Martins Tick & Flea stuff is great, and lasts for a month on the dog to prevent further attacks.

Tick tweezers are the best alternatively soak the bs in kerosene or vaseline; they suffocate and drop off. (Don't do the kerosene if you smoke though)!
