how many pounds of pressure per sqr. inch can be applied by one bite, from a staff. ?

Who cares?

Why would you want to know this ??
I have owned two Staffords and never once has this question crossed my mind :(

Try putting your hand in his mouth and grabbing his male bits very very hard, OK a stupid answer to a stupid question.

Guest,
I agree with the others... Why on earth ask such a question?
It's even scarier to think why you would find the answer relevant in the first place.... Sorry

Probably a macho thing, or there is a more sinister reason :(

Whatever sort of person asks a question like that........not a dog lover obviously. It makes me shudder to think of the logic behind it.!

the answer is no one knows.theres been no scientific study to test it.however what we do know is that staffs bite is just as hard as other breeds.not more harder.a hard bite depends on the dog not breed.hope this answers your question.
no offence intended but the people who posted ''why do you want to know that'' etc there may be lots of reasons why some1 may want to know.why not just answer the question and leave out replies not answering it and imagining that he might be a person with bad intentions.

<<<there may be lots of reasons why some1 may want to know >>>
For the more stupid of us , can you explain one such reason ??
I truly have never needed to know with my Staffs .
A poster yesterday apologised for his friends using his pc and posting such questions.

I'm sorry Pynadeth - but I have to agree with Lel.
It seems to be a very odd question - Why would anyone need to know this for one reason let alone LOTS of reasons ??
What significance can it carry? I'm not being argumentative or anything else - but if there is a genuine reason why anyone would need to know how much pressure was created when their dog bites something, I'd love to hear it.

no offence taken at all ballies mum!were all here to ask questions not just me!
for example
1 if the person was to train a dog to do personal protection work
2 if the person was doing research in jaw muscles of canines and the strength of bite(i am a dentist and currently my dissertation is on this subject-mainly the masseter muscle tho!)
3 out of interest in dogs anatomy and physiology which i have looked into my self!
4 to see why a staffs jaw muscle has the urban myth about it having lockjaw or wether it was a strong jaw and how strong.
5 wether to give the staff a toy knowing it would break it or not.some so called destructible toys have been destroyed by my dogs!
etc etc
the amount of times i play with my dogs and see them hanging off a rag feet not touching floor not even letting go when i shake it about!this has made me wonder how strong my dogs jaw muscles are.as a dentist i can appreciate the strength in the masseters to hold them up even under stress.
why jump to the conclusion that he is a shady character?which is all i am sayiong.the majority of the replies have been presuming he was sinister and not even answering the question.
ps lel do you have to reply back with a reply like that?i have not been rude in any way at all so why not have the decency to reply with manners?i never called any1 stupid.this was my thoughts on the subject.just cos you have never thought doesnt mean any1 else cant or shouldnt ask.
ill leave it at that.

The mind boggles.
Does a personal protection dog bite? I think not. Any grip would do the job. It's illegal anyway.
If some one was doing research into musculatures they would not be asking on here they would be doing dissection and checking it on their equipment.
Out of interest, pull the other one, interest in what?
Who, with any sense would look into a myth?
How many toys have you bought that have a poundage rating on them?
By lel
Date 26.08.03 20:21 UTC

I cannot see anything impolite in my reply.
Can i just add that surely someone doing such research would register ??

i will go through all the points you have made jackie bout my post.
1 any grip wouldnt do.pp worlk needs a dog that can bite hard.why would they use a dog that would just grip?they would let go.that would be against the point in holding on to the aggressor.
2 doing dissection of which i have done many at dental school would not tell you how strong the muscles are.you can have big muscles without a strong bite.any dentist can tell you that.dont know what your medical backgroung is so dont know why you would say this statement.my mind boggles!lol!
3 out of interst?yeah out of interest.my dogs can hang on to a rag for at least 5 minutes-at least.so i have wondered out of interest on how strong their muscle are to hole them up.can you tell me a lot of other animals that can hang on like these bull breeds like ambulls, pits, staffs etc?????
4 you would look into a myth to see exactly that!if it was a myth or not.if you dont you would never find out if it was a myth or not.
when i first started looking into bull breeds before i heard of lock jaw.only when i started looking into the myth of lock jaw i found out it was untrue -if i hadnt id still believe in it.dont you agree?thats why theyre still LOOKING into the lochness monster, snowman etc.to prove wether its a myth or not and not be ignorent of the truth.
5 no toys have poundage but many say indestructible which they obviously arent due to the bad back of picking up tiny peices of toys about!!!lol
lel i was offended becos you said i stated you all were stupid did you not.i have never said that!
must be typing.people read different to wat people are trying to say.
yours sincerely pynadath

You are not a UK citizen,I guess. Personal Protection dogs are, not only, not allowed to bite, they are not allowed.
As to the rest of your answers, you live in a different world to me, not quite the same sense of reality, but may be that is because I have been here longer and one lives and learns about the difference between what is possible and what is probable.;)

Pynadeth, even police dogs are required to release! Any dog that grips and holds on would be considered a danger to the public.

Hello Pynadeth,
Your reply still leaves me a little baffled, why would a dogs masseter muscle structure hold any relevance to anyone other than a vet? If you are as you say, a dentist, shouldn't you be devoting your study time to human anatomy? I'm in that field as well - and I can honestly say that even when I was studying, my dogs jaws never came into it!
As for pp dogs, we don't have them here, I don't think, but even as JG point out, even police dogs have to release! So that point doesn't seem to make much sense either!
And I'm sure that we've all bought toys for our kids as well as our pets, that haven't stood up to battering that they receive, regardless or not, of whether they are supposed to be 'indestructible'
My neighbour also has a little JRT who can also hang off the end of a towel and be shaken about - Maybe there's a myth about them too !!!
Sorry, don't you think it a bit odd that the initial poster never replied, mmmm. me thinks something funny going on :( Maybe best to stay lurking in future.

Thats a point I tried to make earlier - surely someone so seriously interested would have registered to enable them to explore and discuss all the information offered wth regard to their question

im not arguing that dogs are not trained to release!im just saying dogs are trained in pp work to bite and hold grip until the 'out' command has been given.
im not going to argue this point further but what sum1 may wonder doesnt mean it has necessarily got to be sinister.i have wondered how strong bite different breeds have.dat doesnt mean im a dog fighter.
being a dentist doesnt mean you are limited to humans.who ever told youu that nots ure wat field thay are in but it isnt true.my elective is on any dentally related subject not just humans.ps vets normally-but theyre exceptions dont have a clue about dentistry.they normally do scaling and maybe rarely do filling-dats all the expertise they have on teeth which is why they normally can call dentists present when doing dental work.dentistd treat teeth everyday not vets so obviously dentists will be better.
ps i am in the uk.
this is my last post i am not trying to start an arguement.our opinions differ.i believe a person thinking this question may not necessarily have anything sinister with dogs.believe there are better boards specialising in subjects like this question so why bother going to a board that is mostly for show dogs?just saying dont jump to conclusions.why bother posting a message that doesnt help?its a waste of time isnt it?
i will leave it at that.agree to disagree.

Pynadeth,
This thread gets stranger everytime you post

I've been thinking about your name Pynadeth - Should this be construed as Pain of death??
Very OddAnyway I think it best to leave it at that, before I say something I might regret! Maybe it should be English and grammar that you should be studying rather than Dentistry.

Date 27.08.03 18:38 UTC
yes and im getting back to fighting my dogs!as im thinking how much jaw strength they have!
i know exactly what im studying.lets hope you do too because its not medicine or you would know that big muscles doesnt equal more strength.learn a bit of medicine then come back to me.at least my profession shows i have some sort of skill whats your vocation?
and yes when i type fast i do make mistakes, sorry for not being perfect!sweet jesus.
