Hi, In a couple of months I will be witnessing a mating between my dog and another ladies bitch. We both show our dogs, they have had their health checks and we have both asked people and researched everything before we go ahead. We all are beginners at some point and I need to know whether or not I should be present with the dogs while the mating is taking place. Wear should I let the dogs do this as I have another male dog and don't want him to smell the bitch.
Please can you give me some advice thankyou.

Hi,
I think perhaps it would be best if you register with us as you will have loads of questions, both to ask and to answer!

Yes, both you and the bitch's owner should be present. Have either of you handled a mating before? Are both the animals maidens? You will need someone in attendance who knows what they're doing! What breed are they?

It is usual for the bitch to travel to the dog, because you need the dog to be as confident as possible, and that means on his own territory. Keep your other dog shut up out of sight, and hose the garden/yard/garage/wherever afterwards.

Hope this helps.

The owner of the bitch needs to stay with her to hold her and make her stand still you need to let the dog sniff her he might try to mount her this will make the bitch a bit jumpy so the owner will need to be firm but gentle at the same time both should be on leads if male gets on try to keep bitch still holding her head and talking to her/you must help the male if he keeps trying and gets on you some times have to use your hands and help him in/ when they are together keep the bitch standing at all times/the dog will want to turn so help him bring his front leg over and keep hold of both dont let them move it would be better if some one could help you that has done it before.
