Continued from here

In the UK the registration is per puppy in the litter, with each puppy being named at the time of registration this is £12 per puppy!

I just noticed that on the new form there is a place to include tattoo or microchip numbers, pity that most people will have sent of the reg. forms long before the pups are ID'd, to ensure that the KC paperwork is available at time of sale! I know that they get them back pretty quick now, but I have waited as long as 6 weeks in the past, and was amazed by my last litters reg's being back by return of post!!

im glad the new forms have a space for the tattoo number ect i used to struggle sueezing it on.
Brainless what i do is phone my tattooist and book a appointment she gives me the numbers there and then on the phone so all i do is pop them next to the name and make a note of who ive called what and there new number.
i hope tattooing gets bigger as i know of only 3 breeders in Bullies who do it.....

Yes,Vicki is right. Tattooists will allocate numbers in advance. Comes in very handy :-) Leigh

The AKC are a bit different in that when you apply for the litter registrations the BREEDER does not name the puppies. Instead a 'blue' registration slip is sent where whoever records the individual dog's registration has the right to name it. As a breeder, I always paid the money to register the puppy when the people came to pick up the dog, filled in the form for them, allowed them to choose from a list of 'theme' names and then sent off the registration form. The individual registration would then be sent to the new owner's address. So, the puppies could be DNA tested, tattooed, etc. prior to going to their individual homes and the appropriate information could be added.

Other interesting bits of information is that the AKC only allows name changes in extraordinary circumstances and unless a second affix (such as Fyrelight FiFi of Oakwood) is added at the time of the initial individual registration it cannot be added at a later date.

Again, what I would like to see is that a portion of the monies from each litter application and individual application fees go into funds for medical research and for rescue of each breed being registered. Ah, if we only lived in a perfect world!

If they did that then I would be happey to pay £20 per puppy, ha;f for KC and half for research! Also why can't the KC acknowledging their commercial status, charge those who registered 5 or more litters double for the registration, and use half of this money for a breed rescue fund. Rescue could then apply for a Grant each year based on the number of rescues it had the previous year. This would be one way of not having the hobby breeder pay for the mess that largely results from the commercial breeding of dogs. Anyone know a KC liason council rep?

did anyone else notice the cheek the KC have on the Crufts entry forms already ticking the box for a donation to them.
surely we pay enough to them throughout the year and now everything has gone up why dont they stick there hands in their pockets
but fancy that already ticking the box so u have to contribute.......sorry im tight but i didnt donate.

The donation is not to the Kennel Club. It is to the Kennel Club Charitable Trust which is a registered charity set up to promote improvement in dogs through charitable donations and research grants. It does a lot of work in funding research into diseases and inherited disorders in dogs and also works in promoting the use of dogs as therapeutic and practical aids to humans (ie as Dogs for the Disabled), and also in relief for dogs who are suffering. I believe that the Kennel Club also matches all donations received via Crufts entry forms with an equal donation from themselves.

I think setting up this Charitable Trust was one of the best things the Kennel Club has done in recent years and I would like to see some of the money from registering puppies and transfer of dogs being donated to the trust. I for one have absolutely no objection to paying another £1 to supporting this charity. Incidentally, my pups are docked (legally) by a vet who contributes the total fee for the docking to this trust.

Nor did I! I hate not having an option, like having a service charge added to a restaurant bill! I feel it is up to me to whom I donate my limited funds! thjough I have a Scots grandfather :D

aND I WONDER IF THEY TAKE ADMIN FEE FOR IT?
- By sierra [gb] Date 20.01.02 13:51 UTC
Me too! Here's a thought. Anyone consider doing a petition and taking it to Crufts. I'm going to sit down and chat with a few of the KC reps at the show anyways. There's some things that I would like to simply discuss. I think your idea of charging double for those who register more than five litters is superb -- especially if it is for more than five litters owned or *co-owned* since some people will try to get around it by simply putting a lot of bitches out on co-ownership.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 20.01.02 20:54 UTC
I think it should be linked to the new breeding and welfare of dog act which says same address or owner (that should take in co-owners too, and wives and relatives!).

ok how about the stud dog owner donates £10 per litter its dogs sire, a meer pittence to say some breeds charge £500 stud fee........
that goes towards the particular breed setting up a heath scheme to get the neccesary equipment more to hand at a show ect to get these stud dogs tested for (this is in bull terriers) Heart murmurs, kidney disease,BAER(hearing) get a stud register going and have it published in the main bodies manual that being The Bull Terrier Club.
e.g BRS Z02 bullies 104 litters registered so thats £1,040 towards the fund.
one of the reasons people dont test is because there are 2 BAER testing clinics in the UK that is pretty bad i can only find 1 Cardiologist that does a doppler test in the UK thats at Kenilworth which isnt too bad for me ....
just a though like it would EVER hapen anyway...
also speaking to a fellow bully breeder who uses the same vet as me i mentioned that Dramiski was bringing a pregnancy detector in the country im sure that will be expensive but as there are 8 or so bully breeders that use the same vet we were gonna approach him and say that we would all club together to get one for the surgery and we obviously get the use of it.

You know, you're right. So far we have only talked about the bitch's owner's portion of the fees going to research and rescue. I sure don't know what all the answers are, but if a portion of stud fees was also donated, it would help. Problem that I see right off is that only the breeders who are truly interested in the breed will donate. It's much easier to mandate through the puppy registration percentages to go into a fund.

You're nice though at £10 per stud fee. I'd be more inclined to see at least 10% which is what I'd like to see donated by each bitch owner for each puppy sold. It's amazing how quickly the money can add up.

I'm surprised that there are only two Baer testing sites here in the UK. What do people do about cardio testing?

I did almost have a heart-attack though when I called to find out what vWD blood testing would cost -- £75 per dog!!!! I paid somewhere around $30 (£20) in the US. If the fees were more reasonable, maybe more people would test. It sure becomes a circle-jerk doesn't it?

Just a quick note about the Draminski.....Is this a Pregnancy Dectector or an Ovulation Detector ?
I imported an Ovulation Detector about 18 months ago & LOVE it.....but it's not really viable to have one at the vets. It needs to be used every day, at approx the same time every day, & even twice a day close to ovulation. It really is best to have one at home. They should be on sale at Crufts...I paid about £300 for mine, but I hear they're a lot cheaper than that now.
Haven't heard of a Pregnancy Detector for dogs - but I'd be really keen to get one if there is one !!

The same people that brought the ovulation detector into the country are I think working on pregnancy detector with the manufacturers and looking to bring it into the country soon.

Bec can tell you who they are as they are one of the top Parson Kennels and I just know him as Steve brought one from him at crufts too but it was less than £300 on show days.
- By activiorbullies [gb] Date 11.02.02 23:27 UTC
yes they are working on the pregnancy detector (this is what we r gonna get our vet to have )
ive seen it on there website
not sure of the addy .............
