Hi my names Zoe, and I'm starting an animal care course in September.
For my course I need a work placement with animals for at least one day per week. (paid or unpaid)
I have tried the local RSPCA's, Battersea, vets, wildlife trusts etc but have had no success.
I live in Chatham in Kent and would need the work to be around this area.
So if any of you know of anywhere I can work or try asking it would be a great help.
Please help me to pass my course.
Thank you.
Zoe

Zoe have you tried the local authority dog pound if there is one in your area?
Zoe, have you tried any local vets. What about kennels, stables, catteries. There is Foal Farm near Biggin Hill but it may be a bit too far for you. They are a rescue place. Good luck

Sorry, having a senior moment, just notices you'd tried vets. There is an RSPCA place at Leybourne, have you tried there. Also there is a boarding kennels in Wouldham, might be worth a try.

Thank for your replys, yes i have tried all my local vets and rspcas:(
I only need it for 1 day per week, you think one of these places would help me out with that eh? ah well!
How about a grooming place? Or ask your college if they have a list of places, other students must have used places before.

What about one of the dog breeders in your area - they might me willing to let you help out in the kennels. Have a look in the breeders section of Champdogs and see if anyone is near you. It might be worth a few phone calls.

Hi Zoe
Well done on getting the job, from the kennel owners point of view the problem is that it is of very little use for kennels generally to have a student for 1 day a week. We have a local agricultural college near here who keep trying to send students for a day for a whole year, which is fine during peak times but when its out of boarding season there is very little work to be done as regards animal care.
If only these colleges realised it would be far better to send students on a block release for however many weeks thats necessary for the course they are on ,far more kennels would take students. For this reason we do not take on students because the amout they learn during off peak times is nothing apart from the maintenance side of things which students are not studying.
I think this may be why you have had trouble in finding a placement in the past.
Hope this may explain things from a kennel owners stand point.
