Usually yes, many bitches drop their coats and a lot of undercoat after whelping and can go quite patchy, especially along the rib area. Ring your vet and tell them about it just in case they want to see her, but I never take nursing bitches to the vet - call them out to you, if they want to see her.
It's probably the common hormone imbalance after whelping that affects some bitches and nothing to do with how you have looked after her - so its not your fault! As long as the skin looks normal, then I expect thats what it is. As long as you continue to pack her with high quality grub she should soon start growing a new coat. Evening Primrose capsules ( not the very high dose ones - just normal ones) are excellent for this as they contain Vit E in natural form and are supposed to help with hormone balancing. I give one day in a piece of meat/cheese to all my adults. But do contact the vet as it may be something else.

My Bulldog bitch lost all her coat nothing on her, but only the affect of whelping and feeding her babies, that was 6 months ago and she now looks wonderful nice red coat has come back so dont worry to much just make sure she has good food.
