Hi guest and Kennelsitter - firstly, is she a King Charles, guest? I dont know the abreviation KGC Spaniel. Knowing the breed would help in pointing you in the right direction to the necessary health checks, breed clubs etc. You will have to register with the group to be able to reply. Secondly kennelsitter says "everyone has the right to breed", which, I suppose is true, in the legal sense, but is not necessarily correct morally or in the best interest of your bitch or the resulting pups.
Of course, everyone has to start somewhere, and have that first litter. But you need to loook closely at the quality of your bitch. When you say not Championship standard, do you mean good enough to show but not to make up to a champion, not good enough to show at Ch. shows, or not really meeting the breed standard in a lot of ways? A lot of excellent brood bitches are not good enough to make up into Champions, however, it takes experience and developing an 'eye' for the breed to be able to see these bitches qualities and realise where they will fit in with your breeding programme.
I suppose what I am trying to say is that if you believe your bitch meets the breed standard and is of good temerament and healthy, then get your opinion verified by one or two experts in the breed. `Next when she passes all relevant health checks, and you verify that her parents/siblings etc are all health checked satisfactorily you can then consider going ahead with a mating.
However, if you just want to breed because she is a devoted and charming pet, please think again, there is a risk you can lose her, and if she is a King Charles then the pups can be difficult to raise. You would be much better seeking out another to buy rather than risking your beloved girls.
bye
