I have a Chihuahua that is about a year and half. He has never outgrown peeing on himself. He pees when I go to put the leash on him to go out (this he just started doing). He sometimes pees when you go to pick him up. Of course he pees when he thinks he's in trouble. Sometimes he pees when you go to touch him. There's no pattern to his wetting. You can never tell when he is going to do it, because he doesn't do it all the time. It is driving me crazy. Will neutering him fix the problem?

Have you had him checked out by a vet for any urinary infection? Otherwise it sounds as if he is a very nervous, submissive dog. From what you say, he pees every time a person looms over him - and when you're as little as he is, that can be very frightening! Having him castrated is unlikely to help, as this is not a sexually-related problem, it's a confidence problem. He'll stop this fear-related peeing when he feels confident.

Thank you for your information. I will check with a vet. The funny thing is that he used to do this with my husband, and I would say the same thing about him being so little, but he never did it with me. It wasn't until recently that he started doing this when I went for him. We have a female Chihuahua, do you think that he is jealous of her?

Hello, I wouldn't say he is jealous of her, but if she is a bit bossy (every female chi I've ever known has been!) he might be feeling a bit more insecure.
Don't approach him, hold tasty treats out and let him come up to you in his own time. Try and encourage him to play with you as well.
Never shout at him, you should have no need to as a dog that submissive would not deliberately. If he does something wrong, the chances are it's because he doesn't know it's wrong. Be patient, and show him the right behaviour instead.
Don't get upset or cross when he does it, it will make it much worse. Try to arrange for meetings or times when he's likely to do it to be outside, or somewhere easily cleaned which will help relax you.
If it's really bothering you, get a good trainer (for one to one work obviously, a class situation is too much for him) to help you build his confidence.
Best of luck
Jo
