I was reading an account of puppies 3 weeks old being sold on at
Gelligaer (or Nelson, the nearest village) a traditional gypsy type horse fair/sale I believe this happens regularly. Looked gelliger up, and it is some 14 miles from Cardiff. Does anyone know anything about this?

Do you mean The House of the Trees? Yes, unfortunately this is a regular occurence, they also advertise poultry autions. Did you read the account on this site or was it in one of the local papers regarding the three week old pups. RSPCA will not interfere as gypsies seem to be above the law .

No I was sent the details, I do believe that poultry was for sale all on the same day. Silly question, but why does the RSPCA allow this to happen. The report I had was, baking hot, NO shelter for any animals and NO water. Some people purchased the puppies, but how many will have survived at 3 weeks old. Also what about the bitch, she will still be in milk and searching for her puppies. I simply cannot understand if this is a regular venue why the RSPCA do not stop it. Is this not cruelty?
Have you ever been to this auction Mayhem?

We usually try to cover some of the sales and agricultural shows, at the last three, calls were made to the RSPCA, as at one fair poultry was piled up crate on crate, no water in the boiling heat. RSPCA said they were not aware the fair was being held , we wrote to the organiser who told us pups had to be sold somewhere and to mind our own business. The selling of animals is becoming a problem as there is no other organisation that has the authority to halt this trade apart from the RSPCA and they are either not in attendance or turn a blind eye.

I know that the same happens at Priddy fair, as someone I know has bought both her dogs from there, a little hunt type jack russel and a whippet type lurcher. :(
my jrt bitch crystal was taken from gypsies buy the rspca (which they tried to tell them she was 10 weeks old which was rubbish as they said she was like 8/12 months old),so i was told when i got her poor thing had fag burns on her head, her tail had been cut off, today tho she is so happy, friendly and the kindest and most gentle, shes my baby you can doing anything to her she lays in my arms like a baby and has her belly rubbed, thankfully she was taken away other wise who knows what would have happened to her.

I have been told this of many dogs that come from the gypies, poor little devils. What a terrible life for them. Glad that Crystal got away from it.

Well has anyone contacted the media? Get hold of newspapers, TV companies and get them to come down I'm pretty certain the RSPCA would turn up then!

I'm with Jesse....
We all hate this type of thing going on....so why don't we do something about it?
If I knew where to start, I certainly would.
Any Ideas....e.mail me. Addy is on profile.
