Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Rough With Puppy at 8 Weeks

Hello my grandpa is coming today, and he is extremely rough and what some would consider mean to dogs. He is 72 years old, and bruised our other dogs ears. I don't want him to traumatize my new 8 week old puppy by being so rough. What should I do. I definetly can't tell him to be more gentle because he is very traditional and wouldn't listen to a teenager.

Will your parents tell him to leave the puppy alone? They should back you up, after all.

Under what sort of circumstances does he get too rough with dogs? If he sees fit to bruise any dog, or a pup, he should be ashamed of himself.

I agree with Jeangenie, try to get your parents support.

try and keep the puppy away from him. does he not like dogs in general.....or does he just not realise he is hurting them?

I would tell grandad not to treat your pup like this - after all he is yours and he certainly wouldnt like you to treat His dogs in a way he didnt agree with
I would tell your parents about your concerns

He doesn't really realize that he is hurting them. He tries to play and be friendly, but gets too rough. He has been great with the new puppy and actually hasn't been rough at all. Thanks

bruise your grandpa's ears and see how he likes it.
