Hello,
Can anyone tell me the name of the slim-type not too chunky American Bulldog please?
I'm down to just three dogs now and feel like I could do with another - my little dachshund I've given to my niece and I've "exchanged" my Patterdale for a boy as I wasn't getting on with the bitch. Now I'm all settled I feel I'm ready to look further into the American Bulldog but want to know what the not-so-chunky type is called.
Thanks,
Charlie

You've given away one dog and yet want to get another one?

Hi
ALL AM BULLYS GROW A LITTLE CHUNKY !
So i am not sure which type you are refering too there are various strains of the AM Bulldog which is Johnson/Scott/Hines plus other strains.
If you couldnt cope with the two you *swapped* you are not going to cope with an AM Bulldog.
I have a Hines American Bulldog and she is a handful but i wouldnt dream of swapping her ! By buying one of these breeds i feel you *may* be making a big mistake.
I would stick to what you know and maybe give up the dream of owning one.
HELEN.
My little Dachshund was very sensitive and my niece has been getting on with her far better than I ever did. So when her mum eventually agreed that she had a dog, she came to me and I offered her her.
The patterdale was attacking my BC bitch and was generally being aggressive, she'd already had I think, 5 homes before we got her. So now I've got a male and so far everyone's getting on great, they've only had a couple of small scraps so far.
I didn't give these dogs away with no thought, but I felt it was in the dogs best interests to let them go.
Helen,
I know American Bulldogs grow chunky but I understand that some grow chunkier than others, and I'd prefer it to be on the smaller rather than larger side. I know by getting one of these dogs it'd be a huge commitment which is why I want to do a lot of research before I decide whether or not if I definitely want one.

Hi ,
If you read up on American Bulldogs you will find they *sometimes* dont get along with other dogs , mine is fine so far but shes had lots of training.
Shes been going to obiedience classes to socialize her with other dogs and people , this i feel is a MUST if you have an Am Bully.
She is a Hines Am Bulldog , and shes now 16 weeks old and shes HUGE ! Shes Taller than our fully grown Bulldog , and you can no longer pick her up now shes too heavy !
I think you should find out more about the breed first , before you decide to purchase one , do in internet search and do some reading up first.
Like someone said Dogs are a big commitment , but i feel you would have your hands full with an Am Bully , if you couldnt cope with the ones you had i feel am Am Bully wouldnt last very long in your household. You should have concentrated on sorting the problems out with your dogs before *giving* them away.

depends on your definition of chunky!!!!!!!
i have seen my freinds ambulls which are the performance type(painter, scott lines)which are not chunky at all!in my eyes anyway.they are much more streamlined ambulls.
have you any experience with molossers like ambulls?if not why choose the ambull they need very responsible handling and training.
ps helen i wouldnt class HINES ambulls as performance type.i dought the hines ambull is pure hines as pure hines dogs are not considered very good at most types of work so not sure why produce pure hines.he must have some other lines in him.just my thoughts.have you any pics of him?
what are his parents names and which breeder did you get him from?

Dogs are for life not just until we get fed up.

Why don't you stick to the 3 that you still have, concentrate on them, getting to know all their foibles? If that's impossible for you - then maybe you should rehome the three you still have - into PERMANENT - homes - then you could just swap clothes with your friends :(

Well Charlie
sorry to be rude, but i think you have had enough dogs already, the way you pass them from to pillar to post, i would never sell you a dog ever, dogs are like children to be loved and cherished for life.
Not a fancy phase.

Well the poor Patterdale has had 6 homes now! I think you will be better off with just one dog and stop wasting peoples time and dogs lives.

how many other dogs are you going to "exchange" and "give away" before you get fed up of all of them?
out with the old and in with the new eh?
