Well its been a while since I last posted here, new job & all & no time at home to post, but Im back with more tales about Sydney the monster pup. Hope Bev & Jo are doing fine with your monsters. Ill read a few of your posts soon & try to catch up.

We started showing last weekend Clayton Le green, only got 3rd /3 & 2nd /2, so nothing to brag about. Last Sat got 1st in 3 Av minor puppy though. Also only 1 dobe so he won his class & got bpip. I was so proud of him he is standing so nice & running without jumping up. Give me an outdoors venue anyday he is so much better. Sunday only 2 dobes turned up so Syd beat himself in puppy & got bpib. Nice to get the ribbons but not really a win. I was happy with him though.

Aprt from his wins he has been naughty, spoke to a lady the other day saying he wasnt to bad only chewed the lino infront of his bed, the wall besides his bed( picture him the big lazy oaff head out of the bed chewing the floor cause he bored.. arrgh even with all his chews, bones, sticks, biscuits you name it its on the floor) oh yeah and a small hole in the carpet.

Did I tempt fate or what. Last night came back down from having a bath to find he'd pulled the cushion of the couch & tore into the back foam everywhere. ahhhhh. oh well perhaps one day he will be the perfect angel.

Other than that he's fine coming along beautifully the judge at the first show he entered saw him again the following weekend and stated he had improved since then (he's a little bum high at present), so hopefully as he matures he will have a lovely straight back.

Well thats about all for now.

Hi Jackie :D
- By Jo19 [gb] Date 12.08.03 21:18 UTC
Nice to have you back Jacky! We were worried about you. Thought Sydney had eaten you!

Big congratulations on your show successes ... that's fantastic. What a clever boy he is! How old is he now? Cam is four months already .. grown so much. I pulled a muscle in my back last week carrying him up the stairs.

I also haven't been on Champ-dogs for a while ... try and check in every other day or so to keep abreast of virtual events but haven't had much time for posting as most evenings are spent trying to prevent Cam from wrecking the living room. :D

Are you going to be showing at the Darlington dog show? Cam will be 3 days under age, but I'll be going to observe. Let me know if you plan to cos it would be great to meet Sydney (and you of course. :D).

How is the new job going, and what are you doing??

Annie has been pretty quiet since getting Lola - puppy duty I suspect. Haven't heard from Bev for a bit but think that things are going good with Taz.

Good to hear from you

Jo

Hi all,

I was worried about you Jackie, didn't know if you were away or gone to another board

Lola is coming along nicely. She's 14 weeks now and seems to be growing as you watch her! We haven't had much damage so far although she is a keen gardener :D. We had a bit of bother with her tail but that seems to have cleared now. I go to ringcraft and obedience with her. She seems to understand what I want her to do but will only comply if it fits in with her plans. I'm having great trouble making her stand!!! She's even worse if i use treats. How do you do it Jackie?? I was worried about George accepting her - no probs. He has gone from being slightly put out for a few days to grudging acceptance and now they are best of friends. I worry a bit when they start wrestling as he is so big and heavy. She seems to cope well and if he gets a bit too boisterous, she just lays still.
Nice to have you back Jackie

Regards to all
Annie

Hi Jacky,
Nice to have you back. Congratulations to you both for your successes in the showring. I've got Taz entered into Darlington show in September, I am really nervous. Particularly as I am having a few problems with her coat at the moment. It's quite dull and she has definitely had an allergic reaction to something, not sure quite what. Its left her with a little bald patch on her back and more on her neck. Still over 4 weeks to the show so we'll see how she goes. She won't stand for me either, they are going to wonder what hit them when we get in the showring:D She's still a bit mouthy, nothing aggressive but I can't have her lose in the garden when other peoples children are about as she gets too excited and knocks them over. Apart from that she's great:) Oh yes just remembered she ripped up the lino in the utility yesterday. The first bit of damage she has done. So shouldn't complain really. On reading this back she sounds like the dog from hell, she isn't really just a bit lively right now. Hopefully she will calm down soon:D

i still have problems getting xzena to stand at 15mts but i find a lot of praying helps!!! i am also entered at darlington and will be there if i find the confidence to drive all the way there and i am also going to redcar the next day (if i can manage to drive to darlington i can manage to drive to redcar cant i ?)

Hi Joze,
I look forward to seeing you at Darlington, and anyone else from the board that is entered, and I have now entered Taz at Redcar so see you there too. My friend came over with her dobe, a brown girl, and her friends black dobe, called Elvis:D for a run around in our garden the other day. I have to say though I though Taz's coat was dull until I saw these two, but it certainly shone compared to the other brown dobe, so I guess its not as bad as I thought. She will stand for a short while and she doesn't mind being touched anywhere really so perhaps I am panicking too much. I just imagine all these perfectly behaved dobes and then Taz, in the ring with everyone staring and muttering to themselves. I also have to keep my fingers crossed she doesn't come into season, as she will be 8 months when the shows are on. Fingers crossed on that, as I will be really disappointed if I have to pull her out.

Best of luck to everyone.
Bev

Hi Bev

I would be more worried if a pup did stand and behave perfectly in the ring than if they didn't :) Judges "should" make allowances for puppies and give them more time to settle down than they allow for adults

Good Luck

Can't wait to watch Taz at the Darlo show Bev! Sorry to hear about her coat. Maybe it's exacerbated because she's going through the "teenage" phase.
- By annieee [gb] Date 15.08.03 08:13 UTC
Hi all

I hope I can get to the show to see you all. What is your kennel name 'joze' so I can say hello. Lola can't show until novemberas she's only a baby. The lady at ringcraft said if i can get her to stand for a split second I'm doing well. I think we can just about do that as long as I don't touch her back legs. Could she be ticklish :D :D or just a fidget!!

I'm a bit worried, she is turning into an avid gardener. Loves digging and thinks plants are just playing 'tug of war'. If they come out of the ground - she wins :D :D. I've tried water spraying but she just goes back when I'm not looking! Crafty heh?

She's also going to look like a body builder soon!!! All that wrestling with George is making her quite muscular.
When you all get your numbers can you let me know them please. When I went to Leeds, I couldn't get a catalogue. They were for sale after 11am by that time they had all gone to those entering.

Good Luck all
Annie

Well hi ladies, my job keeps me very busy so I don’t get much chance to have a look here but hopefully Ill be able to get online every now & then. As they sell internet stuff I can look online @ lunch with no problems.

Joze. Glad to hear the evil one is doing well. I sent you an email the other day but nothing back from you yet. Our computer is playing up so maybe you didn’t get it. Never mind. I lost the number for the secretary for Redcar so I probably missed out. But there is a champ show at Stafford are you intending to go to this? I am not sure yet. Guess if you want to go as well we can meet near my place & travel together so long as the beasts like each other. Im sure they will. Otherwise we can have a car convoy. Thought Id lost all the pix I took of you @ B’pool. Still got em Ill send em asap. Sorry so slow.

Jo, Im not travelling to Darlington didn’t know is Syd would be good enough to enter. Maybe to late for redcar as well dunno. Sydney is huge (well that is until he stands next to a full grown male then he looks small like a bitch). Went through some photo’s yesterday and was looking at the pix of him he has grown so much its really amazing to think that only 2 months ago he was a cute little pup, now hes a huge cute big pup, well sometimes cute. He is certainly a mischievous devil.

Annie, 14 weeks already doesn’t it fly the time.. I remember looking at Sydney as well & thinking that he is growing in front of my eyes. His growth has certainly slowed down I cant notice it as much as I did. But he must be growing still because a Lady judge Eileen saw him on week then the next & commented on his growth. He seems to have grown quicker at the back than the front. It has to catch up now..
Sydney didn’t stand very well at first still learning he fidgeted a lot but I baited him with mini sausages from asda & it works a treat I can fiddle with his legs and he doesn’t mind. I think a lot of bitches don’t like being handled as much guess its perseverance. I attended a lot of ring craft to get Sydney used to being touched. A lot of people I have met have said that not standing being touched seems to be a common complant with bitches. Best of luck & keep trying she’ll get there Jo’s Xzena looks lovely in the ring but Im sure that Jo has had lots of practicing with Zxena.
BTW Syd is funny he kicks out like a mule if the lead touches his back feet. So I know how you feel. He doesn’t like his feet being touched so I hold him further up his leg to position his back legs. Be firm hold his feet and plant them down saying stand wait till he stops pulling his leg & then try another one, just remember not to push tem back to far till he is older I don’t think they can support their weight for a long time. Took Sydney quite a while till he is comfortable with his legs back.

Bev Im so sorry to hear that Taz is having coat problems. I am so lucky with Syd, his coat is always so glossy, and people always comment on what a lovely shiny coat he has. Don’t do anything special, he eats pal dry biscuits, sometimes pal puppy food (he’s a fussy eater) lost os chews garlic tables (human variety) and a capful of cod liver oil in his meat (when he eats meat). So I think Im blessed with a dog with a good coat. Shame about his manners, I wish Syd was as good as Taz he really is the devil dog..

Well looking back Ive just written a novel so Id better finish it for now.

Joze can you send me the details again about redcar & let me know about Stafford. Be good to see you again & hopefully show off my devil dog. Are you entering the Morecambe show again in Sept at the Platform? Ill be there.

Im entering a few shows local to the lancashire area so if anybodys interested Ill let them know which ones. Thought I needed to get Syd out & about at local shows before spending big bucks for champ shows..

Many thanks,

Help the evil one has started to come out in spots around her muzzel, she has had one on her bum for a bit but these ones are irritating her could it be the heat and that she should be due to come into season? (possibly)
- By JackyandSydney [gb] Date 18.08.03 10:18 UTC
Hi Christine, I too would be interested in attending a dobe club show. Good to be in with same breed, plus its nice meeting people with Dobermann’s especially when you’re a novice like myself. Is there a web site that you can get more information on shows just for dobe’s, also if I join a club do they send you info out?

Joze.. I bet you went very red in the face when you realised. Can picture you (grin). Well done in your placing’s. I assume this was with the evil one? 1st out of + 25 bet you were over the moon. I would be ecstatic if it was Syd. Was happy that he beat 2 others let alone 25.
Sorry to hear she has spots. Can t give you any advice just my sympathy. Hope she gets better soon be good to see you at Morecambe again. I’ve entered my evil one so you’ll get chance to meet him finally. See you soon.

Jude all the best with your baby hope to see you at some shows as well
- By OdinsMum [es] Date 19.08.03 07:24 UTC
Thanks Jacky. By the way, where did you find all these shows to enter, do you get one of the doggy magazines or are you already in a ringcraft club? We're hoping to join one shortly as well as continuing with obedience. Definitely interested to go along to a show or two and maybe enter when he's a bit bigger.

Hi Jude
South east !!!! At last a Dobe owner in my neck of the woods! I'm Bedfordshire, where are you? I too have a young Dobe, Lola. She's nearly 4 months so we may meet up at a show sometimes. I try to get to the local shows and some of the Champshows too. I hope to go to Darlington to see Jo, Bev,Joze and Jacky.
- By OdinsMum [gb] Date 19.08.03 16:49 UTC
Hi Annie,

We're in Oxfordshire (Vale of the White Horse area) and Odin is 5 months and black and tan. There must be more of us in the South East :), a dobie owner stopped her car specifically the other day to come and say hello when we were taking him on a walk! Which shows have you been to locally? We've not been yet but we're starting ringcraft at a local club in early September (the club has a break during August). They said they didn't mind boisterous pups so fingers crossed!

Jude
- By JackyandSydney [gb] Date 19.08.03 17:14 UTC
Hi Jude,

I got most of the show info from ringcraft classes, then once I started showing they have more there as well. Shame that your local clubs are having a break. I was lucky as I started Sydney when he was 11 weeks old, so he's had lots of practise (not that that makes him behave any better).

Have you shown any dogs before? Try to start with him before your classes begin and get him used to being touched all over press on his hips whilst saying stand of course so he doesnt think you want him to sit. Once he has the hang of it Im sure he will behave. Just remember that he is young and will muck up but with persistance he will come good. (I still cross my fingers when showing.)

Got a show Sunday 31st barrowford Agc show @ Nelson Lancs. So till then its practice practice at home as my classes have also stoped for holidays.

I also take Syd to obedience even though a lot of ringcraft classes say not to teach your dog to sit. It did cause me a bit of trouble as when I rustled into my bum bag he would sit waiting for a treat, but to me its more important that I have an obedient dog that sits when told rather than a full grown male who does what he wants. So I still have to say stand when stacking him.
- By annieee [gb] Date 19.08.03 19:51 UTC
I couldn't agree more Jacky. I take Lola to ringcraft and obedience. Obedience is much more important to me. Lola has started to sit for treats cos my nices and nephew came to stay for a while and muct have trained her! Boy did she learn that one fast :D
I do what you say hand just keep saying stand - I'm sure a judge wouldn't mind that :D
- By OdinsMum [gb] Date 21.08.03 12:03 UTC
Hi all,

Blaster virus stopped me from replying for a couple of days!

We haven't shown before but the idea of going to places full of dogs, esp dobes and people who love them sounds brilliant :) We started with obedience straight away we got him and joined classes as soon as he was allowed out after jabs. We saw his Dad at the breeders and he was a big fellow so having an obedient big dog was our priority! I have a feeling that in the end he might be too tall cf the breed standard as he's growing so rapidly but we'll see. He's just hit 30 kgs at 5 months and it's not fat. We also intend to have a go at agility when he's old enough - we're going to start a new obedience class at a local club shortly that also does agility etc once they're 12 months. First and foremost he's part of the family but it's a whole new world of doggy activities and we'll see what he enjoys!

Hi Jude,
What is your girls kennel name so we can look out for her?
- By Kerioak Date 26.08.03 09:28 UTC
Hi Jude

Just seen your message about Dobe Club (entries closed on Saturday 23rd) but the show is at the Dobermann Club Training and Showground, Hertford Road, Digswell, Hertfordshire on 21st September. If you want a copy of the schedule anyway email me privately (always the best way to get my attention) and I will give you some phone numbers to try - if you join then you will get the schedules sent automatically.

Hi

I've been away for a few days - family roblems have kept me away from my girl. She is Lola - Chaanrose Hot Shocklate. I've been staying in Yorkshire with my brother. I'll be going back there in a day or two which means I'll be able to go to Darlington. Hope to see some of the others there.

Annie :)
- By Jo19 [gb] Date 31.08.03 20:23 UTC
Annie, if you're going to Darlington show let me know! I'll be going, minus Cam - he's still too young.
