Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Akita bitch pup wetting when excited

Our 9 and a half week old Akita bitch has been absolutely brilliant from day 1 regarding toilet training. Not once has she messed in the house with the exceptions of a bit of wetting which we can fully understand and as she is getting better all the time (ie more or less paper trained). One thing is begining to bother us. Our best friend has a beautiful Akita (bitch also) and when she see's somebody she knows, she gets so excited that she wets herself quite a lot!! Our puppy has just started to do this in the mornings when she greets us or if any of our freinds come over. Is this the same with all Akita bitches or is it individual? If this is a common thing is there anything that can be done to reduce or stop this? Any suggestions please????

My atika bitch did exactly the same! She eventually grew out of it - I think she was just so excited to see anyone - just like some kids can wet themselves when they get very excited. She is still learning to control her bladder.

I don't think ours has done this for about 8 months now and she is now 15 months old.

They are wonderful dogs aren't they.

My Golden Retriever used to do this when greeting people, we started ignoring her when we first went in, until we got her off the wood floor  and into the kitchen, she grew out of it fairly quickly ( I think...it was a long time ago now), but it's not uncommon, espescialy in Bitches, and I've been told that this is part of submissive behaviour when greeting the pack leader, or some physco-babble like that ;)

liberty :)
