Is Stronghold ok to use on GSD puppy? Any tips and advice from GSD owners gratefully appreciated. We have a almost 12 week old GSD puppy, but he doesn't seem to be settling at night, and we have had a couple of sleepless nights, he only seems to sleep for about an hour then yelps and cries and barks till someone gets up to see him....HELP!

Hi
It is nothing specific to GSD's. Yes, stronghold can be used on pups..but you must get the one specially for puppys. You cant use the dog one.
Stronghold come in a variety of strengths starting at kitten and puppy to large breeds.
You can get it from your vet, just phone up (if you dont want to go along) and ask if they have any in stock ( when you come round to needing it).

With the sleepless nights...the only thing I can say is dont get up to see him all the time. He is actually being very smart, he knows that by crying and yelping, you will come and see him...this is what he wants. Im afraid perseverence and a few more sleepless nights are in order, but in the long run you will benefit.

Hiya, Steph is right, Stronghold is fine, don't worry.

About the crying....it happens with puppies..they're just like babies, so you can expect a few sleepless nights!

I have GSD's, and all I can really say, is, don't be too soft.....if your pup is sleeping downstairs, try not to go down to him/her (I know it's difficult) but if they think, when they cry, you'll appear, they'll carry on doing it. It's not a nice thing to do, but ignoring them is best.

If you have any problems, feel free to e.mail me (addy on profile)

Take care, and good luck

Hi....

Got to agree with Lisa, be firm at night, and dont come down if the puppys cryin. It dosnt take long for them to adjust, just cover your ears(says he whos slept down stairs with the first GSD pup i had!! :-) ) I know its tough, but stick with it....Good luck..

Hi Jools

This is in response to the crying at night bit. My GSD pup screamed and howled ALL NIGHT, and I do mean all night. I knew that I had to ignore her etc etc. After 4 days, and being close to suicide, I slept downstairs with her. My husband and I took it in turns, then after 2 weeks still slept downstairs but with her outside the room we were in, and she was fine. One week later we went back upstairs to bed and she's been fine ever since. I think the moral of this story is there's more than one way to skin a cat (sorry cats)
