Just got our new GSD puppy yesterday, bad night with him last night yelping and barking - hopefully tonight will be better (fingers crossed)!
Having just read through some of the other posts, I think our breeder may have misinformed us. She told us when the puppy was vaccinated (23/7/03) he was also wormed and de-flea'd. Is this normal practice? He seems to be biting at his skin a bit and yelping (fleas I'm thinking). She also told us he didn't need to get wormed again until he was 12months! I thought this a bit odd at the time - but she said if he was just going to be a house pet we shouldn't bother.
One more thing his vaccination certificate seems to be a little bare, if that makes sense. It has the previous owners name and address, dogs date of birth (30/5/03) and a little sticker that I think must of came from vaccination bottle, the date and the vets signature, but none of the boxes have been ticked (distemper, ICH, etc), and there is no date for his next vaccination. I know it should be done at 12 weeks though.
One more question can you get a product that both worms and de-fleas dogs and can anyone recommend a goog one for a 10 week old puppy.
I know its a bit long and I've asked loads of questions, but I need HELP!! lol
Many thanks

Hi and welcome the very first thing you do is take that pup to your vet, you can buy all you want from them for the fleas and worms and the pup will need worming best of luck :-)

Stronghold a drop on, worms for roundworm, de fleas and deals with mange - which its possible this puppy has as the breeder doesn't sound ideal. Its used 4 weekly. However please get advice from GSD owners on this board re Stronghold as I'm not certain that its suitable for shepherding breeds.

This is what I did kind of story;)- Panacur for worms and Frontline spray since both have a doseage which depends on the weight of your pup:) With the spot-on's- they might be the correct doseage now (ie; pups current weight) but in a few months when your pup has grown at the huge rate GSD's do- the doseage will no longer be enough:) Worm now (10 wks) then again at 14 wks then every month until 6 months of age then either every three or six months:) I Frontline my GSD every other month but that's mainly because of the cat who roams and picks up fleas (the cat is done monthly):) Hope this helps and good luck with your pup:) It may be that your pup has had a Parvo jab already- this is just a precaution of the breeder and he might still need two boosters:)
