Topic Dog Boards / Health / Bio-flo collars

I have a 14 year old greyhound bitch that we have had for almost 12 years. She didn't make the grade for racing and was dumped! Typical Greyhound type story really. She has been the most wonderful companion but now she is looking and feeling rather frail. She is finding it increasingly difficult to get about some days and getting in and out of bed can sometimes make her a bit shaky. I have heard of Bio-flo but have never used any of their products, does anyone know if they are any good ,or where I might be able to find out more, or have you any suggestions that might help her to feel a little younger!!
Thanks, Jackie

Hi Jackie,

My springer was diagnosed as having early signs of arthritis two years ago after I found her limping after along walk.

I bought her a bioflow collar and could not believe the difference. She hasn't limped since she has been wearing it. It doesn't work for everyone but it worked for Holly.

I bought her collar from Crufts. You could do a search on the internet to find a supplier of them.

Try reding the posts on Senior dog food.
I tried a Bio-Flow but it didn't work for my bitch but I know those that it has worked for.
Glucosamine sulphate tablets from the health food shop worked for Us.

Hoping you find something that works on the girl

Regards
Gary

Gary I have used glucosamine for 2years. my 14 yr old collie is very mobile and I always use it myself (we both have one a day) I cant stress enough how good it is for all arthritis sufferers human and canine ihave tried the others such as green lipped mussel extract and could find no improvement one month on glucosamine and the improvement was remarkable. mari

I have been very interested to hear of your success with glucosamine. My GSD suffers from arthritis and has been on PLT tablets from the vets. THese do seem to do the trick but I am concerned about the side effects so will be off to my nearest health food store tomorrow to give them a try.

One of the best for quality and value is from www.naturesbestonline.com. Maybe worth a try.

Val

Thanks for that info I have been on their website and ordered a catalogue, their prices are really good too, far cheaper than keeping a large dog on PLT and without the side effects too! Does antone know what sort of dosage would be right for a large adult male GSD, he weighs 43kgs.

My very arthritic friend was very sceptical, but wouldn't be without one now, as they offer them on a trial basis with money back if not satisfied you can only try and see if it helps!

Several of her geriatric dogs and a cat have them too, and she and I have noticed a big difference.

I must admit that I was very sceptical about the collars too. But eventually got one to try and help out my then 11 year old GSP who, having spent all his life working was starting to show signs of wear and tear. I was amazed at the improvement in him. Within a week of getting it he had stopped limping and had started to jump five bar gates again! I am sure that the collar gave him another 3 years. Apparently, it doesn't work for everyone but I have recommended it to a few people now and it has helped all of them.

I've never used one but have heard good reports - wonder why it does work on some and not others?

Could it be because the collar has to be "tight enough" to the neck, or doesn't it work like that?

I am sure that must come into it ......but you'll never know for sure.

Eventually, nature will win the day ..but it helped my boys for a while and thats all that matters to me :-)

Absolutely, anything that helps is worth it :)
