Can anyone tell me when you cans tart giving sick tablets to pups. We are going away to Orkney in October and ou pup will be 6 months old she is going to be in the car for roughly 20hrs from Oxford with lots of stops olong the way, the only trouble is that we keep taking her out for drives but she still gets sick.
She will be given her last feed at 6pm the night before we go, then we leave at around lunch time the following day so hopefully her stomach will be empty, then she will get a feed about 3 hrs before we catch the ferry. But if i can give her tabs then i may be able to give her some food on the way up.
A pup that I sold at 3 months was always car sick. He was given a travel sickness tablet from the vet and he was fine. At 6 months you should be able to give tablets safely, but check the dosage carefully.

You could try using ginger aromatherapy oil to stop car sickness. This is what's recommended for humans with car sickness and it works a treat - my friend tried it on her dog and the results were just as good. You should be able to get some from Boots or another aromatherapy oil stockist - just put a few drops on a tissue and leave it out in the car so that the smell spreads.
Good luck - Orkney is worth the journey!! :)

Try thick rubber matting under the dog. Helps stop any static electricity that may build up.
Worked for mine.

Orkney is a beautiful palce my partners sister lives there shhe owns a shop in Evie, i will try the oil thans, we already have a plastic type mat in the car which comes out easily for cleaning (thank god).
We have a big car (volvo V40) with lots of boot room for Inca and Ice but perhaps a lot of humps in the road around my area does not help.
Hopefully the ginger will help if not i will have to use tabs whihc i don't like giving unless absoulutley necesary
I just read on another board today that a breeder had a whole litter of pups who were carsick. Someone recommended a smal smear of Vicks vapour rub on their tummy buttons (she thought they were mad for suggesting it) but it worked and they were never sick after.
