i am looking to buy a suitable puppy for my family. please could you recomend a breed . i would like if poss following characteristics small good with children , short coated , hardy,friendly,intelligent and not to hyper and yappy . thank you

How old and how many children?
What sort of home (house/flat/garden) do you have?
Are you at home all day or do you work (and if your children are pre-school do you plan to go to work in the future)?
How much time can you spend solely on the dog for play/exercise/training?
When you say small - up to what sort of height?
