Hi,
Can anyone clear up the inheritance of coat in Griffon Bruxellois for me - i.e. is rough coat recessive, as you would assume for other breeds, or not?
Many thanks,
M.

As far as I'm aware Rough Coat is dominant over smooth in many breeds!

No, smooth is recessive. Mate a rough to a rough or a rough to a smooth and you could get either or both coats in the litter. Smooth to smooth will only produce smooth.

Take the rough with the smooth

Thanks folks, was obviously having a blonde moment (I'm not :)!) as it's the same in my breed too!! Doh .....

Hi,
I am assuming that Brihow Collies has Collies! In which case, the smooth coat is DOMINANT. Smooth coats are ALWAYS dominant. A "wire coat" is something else again.

Correct the longhair gene is recessive! I wonder what the poodle coat is classed as then as it seems to be dominant over every other coat!

Sorry to disagree with you but I used to breed collies and smooth to smooth does throw roughs

I wasn't talking about collies. If you read the entire topic I was asked a question about Griffon Bruxellois and in Griffons smooth to smooth does not throw roughs.
