As many of you know my literacy with computers is not good and I have a problem.
I have Windows XP and although I have no problem transferring my files to CD to save them. I am having great difficulty in doing the same with my Breedmate files. I would be devastated if I lost all my records and with this worm thats going about it has worried me.
Any clever people out there can help me please!!!

Hiya
well, the worm wont mean that you will lose any data, so dont worry about that. If you have it though, follow the links that have been posted and apply the patch..but you wont lose anything cos of it (except your mables cos it is bl**dy annoying!) :)
Would need a bit more info though on what you are trying to do.Steph

Thanks Steph
Following the other thread I have managed to download the patch etc.
It is the backing up of material that now has me bamboozled :-D
Any help gratefully received

Can you copy normal files to CD ok?
If so, can you copy the breedmate files to CD using the same method?
If not do you get any errors? What CD writing software are you using?

Hi Lady
Try this
1 go to my computer
2 click left button on mouse and it will show local disk
3 click right mouse button on local disc, and you will see explore
4 click right mouse button on explore and files will be displayed
5 click left button on mouse on required file and drop down will show "send to"
6 Right click on "send to"
7 right click on dvd/cd-rw (Last item on drop down list)
the computer will read the file you require and then display ready to send to cd or something similar click on that and you will send your file to cd rom disc. hope this makes sense.

I have a similar problem with BreedMate & Windows XP as Lady Dazzle. I have saved my files to CDRW but when I look at the files on the disc, there is a blank database. Do you have any suggestions as to why there is a blank database? If I highlight the file on disc, it is the same size as on my hard drive ie 7.76MB so it is saving it.
Any help gratefully received!

I don't know anything about Breedmate. However, I know a little bit about computers. So there are two things to try:
1. Sometimes, programs need read and write access to the data files, so cannot use files that are on CD (and therefore read-only). Try copying the file from the CD back to the hard drive and using it from there.
2. The fact that it is showing as the same size does not mean that it has copied okay. CDs have a table of contents which will list the file name and file size. If that has written okay but the data hasn't, then it would show the name and size, but have no data. Try copying the file to a different CD to see what happens.

Breedmate saves the "Forms" in a different file to "Data" Ideally you should save both. with the latest version this is ****. FRM and ****.BMX Older versions used different names (But old age means I can't remember what they were!

)
Best wishes, John
