hi everyone,
i have resently read about a lady who has trouble with her dog being scared at night, and asked if a harness would be a good idea.
well i have a dog who pulls like a steam train when ever we go for a walk. she is a large dog and i find her just to head strong. i have had two halti's and she has broken both from pulling, i wonder if anyone could give me some ideas, and would a harness be a good idea for her. waiting hopefully kristina

Try a gentle leader a bit more expensive but stronger and has a clip so it can't move also got softer webbing so is more comfortable

Hi Kristina other people here reccomend Kumfi harnesses. We have this problem too and used a very long lead - 4ft to train him to walk ona loose lead first - we use a clicker and there is a good site on clicker training by Karen Pryor. Start walking and praise when the lead is loose. If she pulls stop dead and take 2 steps back so she is off balance when pulling. When the lead slacks praise and treat her and walk on. If you throw the treat so she has to concentrate on you and let it land near your foot. At home dont let her go through doors or upstairs ahead of you. The idea is to teach her that loose lead =movement and pullling = stop. Try tonotice the signal she's about to pull - ours lowers his head and I see his shoulders bunch - and act rightaway to nip the pull in the bud. We're still at it so it will take time to change but it does work. I also varied locations or route on our walks so he dosen't think aha park time and start eagerly pulling in that direction! Best of luck:)

i agree with lor post.i have a bandog and another powerful dog which pulls like hell!
both have to be trained when very young so when older they would never pull me.
first thing is to try and make sure the dog learns heel.
if the dogs starts to about to pull while walking if you can quickly change direction in the opposite way-everytime you feel him about to pull do this.he will soon learn that he has to watch you for walking and stay near or he will be pulled about.
ps do this in a park or people will think youre looney walking zigzag!
