Hope this is ok to post Admin :)

Anyone with an old mobile and wishing to help Guide Dogs can email mphone@gdba.org.uk or call 0118 983 8381 and request a recycling envelope.
Take old SIM card out , put old mobile into envelope and post ( its FREEPOST too) and this raises £3.50 for each mobile recieved for the charity :) :) :)
I'm sure theres loads of old phones knocking about ;)

The charity breeding and traning guide dogs has had a bashing recently on radio 4 with service users angry at the closure of residential training facilities where owners meet their new dogs and talk of them having large surpluses. I still feel it's a worthwhile cause and our primary school sponsors a pup. What I do wonder is what happens to the older dogs when the owner takes a new working dog - do they go back to the association, stay at home with their owners or worse....? Any thoughts?

As far as Im aware, when a Guide dog retires, it stays with it's owner as a pet. Any pups that don't make the grade (I heard of one that was brilliant in every way, except for an unfortunate habit of chasing squirrels  ) are homed as pets, and there is a very long waiting list for such pups :)

Liberty is right, when a Guide Dog retires, it ideally stays with its blind person as a pet, or the GDBA will rehome it with carefully checked people from its long waiting list. Dogs which fail their basic training, or otherwise don't make the standard, are also homed like this. The GDBA retains ownership of the dogs at all times. Hope this reassures you.

The kennels for Guide Dogs in Cardiff has closed down, even so there were only three dogs there. As they are reducing kennelling space over the UK I am wondering how it is possible for them to spend £56,387,000.00 in one financial year.
