Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / My Dog Doesn't Seem To Want To Eat
- By xzibitrider [us] Date 16.08.03 02:16 UTC
I had two puppies. There are about 6 months old. One of them had an ear infection. The other dogs would try and help him out and lick his ears for him so the flies wouldn't wouther him. We bought some powder to help his infection and squirted it in his ear cannals. A few weeks later his eat behavior totally changed. He used to sit and wait for me to bring him his food and then all of a sudden he would never be around, and when i would show him his food he would pick at it and walk away. He sadly died just yesterday.

Now the other pup who is the same age as the other one is starting to act as the other did. It is scaring me because I dont want to lose another puppy. I love them too much. This puppy couldn't wait for her food, she would jump up and down at me until I would set it down, now she is walking away from he food and has lost all of her excitement. He playful behavior seems to have stayed constant so far. I dont know if she is sick like the other one, or she knows what happend to her brother and is not eating. It is a little hot were I live but that never seemed to bother the dogs. They get ticks on them from laying in the dirt because we have a 1.75 acre lot and we cant always disinfect the whole yard of ticks. Please help me. Is there anything I can do to save my other pup if she is in trouble. We also dont have much money to pay for a vet. Please Help!!!

Welcome to the forum Shaun :)

Are you in the UK or USA? It sounds to me like you need to go to a Vet whether you can afford toor not , maybe if you explained your situation and asked them to arrange part payment so you can pay weekly for any treatment , they would help?

You need to treat the DOGS so they dont get ticks , not treat the whole yard. There are plenty of ticks and flea treatments available and you HAVE to use one , especially if you know there are ticks on your land. Ticks can pass on Lyme disease and it can be very dangerous. Lyme disease is on the increase in the UK and is rife in parts of the USA

Go to a vet!

I will take Beary to the VET. We treat all of our dogs with tick and flea shampoo when we wash them. It seems that what we buy doesn't work. We try new items everytime. I live in the US. Also, is there a way that it can be Parvo? Because i have heard by word of mouth about that lingering in the air. But if it was Parvo why are my puppies the only ones eating it. Maybe the dogs got bit by a black widow. There are numerous possibilities. I just hopefully can get beary some help in time.

I'm pretty sure you can buy Spot On flea and tick treatment ...not sure what name it would go under there though , here we can get Frontline . You just squeeze the small pipette out onto the dogs neck and it will protect them for a month at a time :)

A Vet will be able to tell you what is wrong with your pup ...make sure you tell him or her ALL the symptoms
