Morning!
My 13week old BT puppy started scratching on Sunday this week. We had taken him to the beach (not for the first time) earlier in the day. He was spotted playing with a flying ants nest so am wondering if he may have been stung???
Its now Friday and he's still scratching! Ive looked through his fur and at his skin but can't find any fleas (he has been de-flead) or any inflamation etc. I washed him thoroughly with puppy shampoo to try to give him some relief but it has made no difference. The itchy bit appears to be his hind quarters and tummy.
If anyone has any advice I would be truly grateful!!!

Aha, I may just have the answer for you, My five month old Goldeb lab was scratching like this, we put it down initally to fleas or perhaps mites as we used to walk him along the common with high grass and the like, max was scratching so hard he was casuing small sores and his teats were being caught and bleeding.... so off to the vet we went who said it was Juvenile Impatigo, Yes humans do get a form of it, however this juvenile one is not transferable and only happns in puppies. The vet originally gave us a shampoo which didnt work so well and then a course of stronger tablets which has help tremendously. He still scrathes now but more doggy type scratching and not so violently as before. He body is free of any small sores that may cause him distress.
anyway I hope this helps, you should ask the vet about this

My only tip I can offer without seeing him would be not to wash him with the shampoo , try Hibiscrub it is a red in colour wash avaliable at any chemist. It has a strong and effective antiseptic in it which imho helps most skin troubles.

Thanks for the advice so far guys!
There doesn't appear to be any spots, redness etc, so could it still be Juvinile Impetigo? Something like a bactrial infection in his skin would explain the lack of physical evidence.
If I use Hibiscrum on him, how often should I bath him? And are there any creams i can use on him to help sooth his skin? I don't know how transferable human products are for dogs!

HI there,
I personally would wash him 2 times the first week, watch to see if you see any improvement, then once a weeks for a couple of weeks.
I actually only use this product on my dogs, I have a whitener that I use on my dogs furnishing very very occasionally but only wash their bodies with this.
It is one of the best known germ killers. Infact the only thing that kills MRSA in the hospitals and it is 100% harmless.
It costs about £3-4 at any chemist.

my lab puppy is doing the same thing - he's 5 months old, and it seems to be his stomach and hind legs - he ends up standing up to scratch himself. I'm going to try the hibiscrub as we washed his bedding in non-biological powder which seemed to help a bit, but there's no sores so I don't want to give him tablets just for the sake of it. We de-flee'd him too even though there was no sign. Let me know how you get on!

Forgot to say to you guys that sometimes to grass in the summer can iritate them a little. One of mine has slight hayfever just like me. We share the hayfever tablets.
Let us know how it goes with the Hibiscrub worth a try.

Just don't buy it from the vet. I asked for some, the vet asked to see the dog, £37.50 later the verdict he gave was "try hibiscrub"!!
