Hi all, I had a phone call today from someone who bought a pup from me. He is only just eight months old, and when he left here at eight weeks he definitely had two testicles. He was bought as a possible stud dog and the owner is understandably upset. Has anyone else had this experience? Will it come down in time, and will he ever be a Daddy?? Do these cases usually result in castration??
Thanks in advance
Amanda

My Beardie boy's tended to come and go, in fact at his first show the judge had a bit of bother finding them :-D Have they tried looking when he is relaxed as he may be wheaking them away when they are felt for. Cava's are fine now. What a topic LOL

Hi
We have a boxer who had one retained testicle and now he has two retained. He is now a year old and we arevhaving them removed in a few weeks as they can cause cancer amongst other things. I know that some people wait to see if they drop as this can happen in rare cases, but again i've also heard it is best to have them removed asap to prevent illness.

If he had two at one time then they have passed through the narrow part of the pelvis and I would be suprised if they do not both appear, don't know if anything can be done to help but would have thought there was.
EDIT to say: Don't know your breed but I have heard of the final decent being as late at 15 months, so it is a matter of wait and see, or seek specialist advice.

hello all
i got same problem on my seven month old boy my breeder does not want to know... i have been to the vet's and they have advised if they have not come down by eleven month's he will have to have them removed as they can become cancerous and they will be more than lickely to be infertile anyway think it's just one of those thing's

Seems a common thing,
My 6 Month old Schnauzer has one retained and has since they 'dropped' Ive not informed his breeder, quite frankly i didnt see the point, he is fit and well.
We have been advised that if by his 1st booster vaccination it has not dropped then we should have it removed, like someone else said they more often than not become cancerous. If your boy only has one retained you can just have that one removed, thats what im going to do. Im going to leave him with one, better for his temprement and fur. He will still be able to breed with the one so thats not a problem, however i dont know how showing him will be affected, i have not looked into that yet..MUST they have 2? :D
Good Luck!

Should not breed from a dog with one testical, the condition is hereditary and that is why the breeders should be interested.
But in the case of the first poster both had been down and they are now moved back, this is not the same as one or both being retained in the abdomen as they must have passed through the pelvis and I am surprised the vet is talking of removal in that particular case.

Ahhhha, i didnt realise it was hereditary, i simply presumed it was an individual thing....Thanks for the info.
