Training discs are a group of small saucer shaped discs which create a sound entirely different to anything else the dog will experience throughout the day. The are shaped so that they can be lifted and laid without making a sound.
The dog has to be tuned into the sound they make - do this well away from the problem you are trying to solve. When you buy the discs there is a booklet that tells you how to introduce the discs - if this programme if followed and the dog is "sensitised" to the discs their extent of use is amazing.
I have been using them for a few years with the three rough collies I have at home and in a dog training class situation. Contrary to popular belief the discs are not used as a projectile to throw at the dog or used in such a manner as to startle or frighten the dog - once the initial training is complete any of my dogs will stop instantly whatever they are doing - good or bad - and watch me for a further command.
I have found them particularly good over the past few days as one of my collies is tunnel visioned as far as a ball is concerned - we live near a beach and in this lovely weather everyone and their auntie is on the beach with a ball, and Gigha thinks everyone throwing a ball is an excuse for her to chase it. Now with the discs in my pocket at the first sign of her making a bolt to some unsuspecting child or footballer I shake the discs and she immediately stops and looks at me for a further command.
The use and training of the discs is too long to go into here , but if you purchase a set make sure you read the booklet and totally understand the process before you start to use them.
Good luck
