Hi all,

The old dog that I posted a few times about, due to him having colitis, and kidney problems died 2 weeks ago this Saturday.

We've all been really upset, and we miss him, and all his little ways terribly....but we do know he's in a better place now, and he's not in any pain.

Our vet was coming out on the Wednesday to give the pups their parvo vaccs....and hubby and I had talked about having Toby put to sleep. It was a difficult decision for hubby, as Toby belonged to his brother who died in February. We took his two dogs in. but we thought, rather than taking Tobe to the vet, we'd have him PTS here, in his home. Anyway, we'd more or less decided that was what we would do.
The poor old lad went in his sleep though, and when he went, he was with the female that he'd spent most of his life with. Somehow, that makes it easier to deal with.

Anyway..To Toby, we miss you so much, and love you with all our hearts, be happy son. xx

Take care all

It's so hard to lose them, isn't it? Good for you for taking him in and making his last months happy.

It must have been very hard to post, its so sad when they slip away but a blessing that way as it was peaceful and natural. Thinking of you.

Thanks JG and Westie,

It's been too hard to post, but I'm feeling better about it now, although I'll never stop loving and missing him, I'm grateful that he doesn't have to go through any more pain.

We tried so hard to make his life as good as it was when he was with his 'real' dad, but unfortunately his health deteriorated, and the vets couldn't do anything as his kidneys failed in the end.

It never gets any easier does it? No matter how many animals you have....it's always heartbreaking when they go.

Thanks again,

Lisa

To Lisa, Graham & Jane - so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved dogs. I think you're right, losing our canine friends does seem to get harder. Perhaps it's an accumulation of the love we invest in them. But the pain has to be worth all the pleasure they give us while they're with us.

Thinking of you :)

Hi Lisa,
I'm so sorry to hear about Toby - it's very hard to deal with, but sometimes, there just has to be a better place for them, than with us and that's very hard to get to grips with. But as you say, he's no longer suffering and he went with someone he loved very much. He'll now be making your husband's brother happy again.
Thinking of you,
Sharon.

Sending (((hugs))) and I found this poem

For ‘Bud’

Is There a Country, Lord, where thou dost keep
A place reserved for dogs that fall asleep?
Large airy kennels, yards, for hiding bones,
A little river chattering over stones,
And wide green fields for those that never knew
A smoky town; an old worn rug or two
Before a fire, where sparks do not fly out-
Sparks are such nasty things to have about!
I like to think there is and I pray
For a dog of mine that died today.
He was so full of fun, not very wise
the puppy look still in his eyes
But he was very dear, he’d come to me
And rest his soft black nose upon my knee.
Thou knowest him ,one night not long ago
He tramped with me across frozen snow;
And there beyond the wood peaceful and still,
We met thee walking on moonlit hill.
Lord keep him safe wherever he might be
And let him always think of me,
That I may hear, when I pass through the dark,
Thy soothing voice, then a friendly bark.

Anon.

A good cry can sometimes help make it easier to bear I particularly like this poem cos of the bit that says:

>>>>>My loss will lessen in a while

When thoughts of him will bring a smile <<<

Don’t.

Don’t say to me,of my best friend
He’s a dog who’s life’s now at an end
He may be just a dog to you
But he had a heart forever true
Don’t ask of me,”why do you cry,
Cause another one you soon can buy”?
Another one may well come here
but for now he’ll have my tears
Don’t criticize my lonely walks
Or wonder at my solitary talks
They help to bring him near to me
Just like the way it used to be
Don’t come to me in two weeks time
And make my grief feel like a crime
For those like me who understand
Grief and Love go hand in hand
So please don’t make me feel a fool
Or hold me up to ridicule
Please understand my loss is real
And love for him I’ll always feel
My loss will lessen in a while
When thoughts of him will bring a smile
So please be patient, help me through
Show me that you’re my friend too.

For my friend

My life is yours to do with as you will
You bought me with money
But the love & care you give to me
Means I give you my all
For my time on earth is short
When measured in human years
Yet in that time a bond is forged
That eternity cannot sever
From puppy to young dog
From mature to elderly
My life passes all too quickly
Our travels are a learning curve
Our experiences together priceless
Whether I am just your pet
Or working companion
In my eyes you are all I need
We have something special
That no one can really define
For the relationship between us
It defies all logical reasoning
And that time comes
When we have to say good bye
I pray think with your head
Not with your heart
And do what needs to be done
For we will be apart only in body
For a short while I will wait for you
And keep watch from Paradise
For you will need another friend
To keep you company
So choose one from my fellows
For alone you must not be
Start over with another
And the cycle will begin again
Then when your time in done
Come join us for we will all be waiting
To cross the Rainbow Bridge

I wrote this after my old girl had to be pts in April
