my bitch dolly delivered puppies 9 days ago all has been well in the last hour
her coordination is going shes finding it hard to walk while i wait for vet any suggestions please help

is it mastitis are her teats swollen

How are the puppies? I was wondering if she might have eclampsia as with a large litter her calcium can be depleted, if this is the case she will need urgent vet treatment. So don't delay.
Please let us know how she goes on.

my daughters staffie had eclampsia and she got a very strange expression, blank and starey, she covered her boobs so the pups couldnt get to them ,these where the first signs of something wrong, she regected the pups too,-hope everythings ok with them,

Sounds like eclampsia to me hope your vet is already on the way, she needs urgent injection, which will put her right within minutes

Hope she is OK. One of my bitches had eclampsia after a large litter and I thought I would lose her. Within minutes of having the calcium injection she was 100% OK, it was like a miracle. Will be keeping my fingers crossed for her.

the staffie had only 3 pups, i dont think its only because of big litters they get it, seemingly some bitches absorb calcium better than others, i keep calcium in and give it once theyve had the pups, its supposed to do no good giving them it before the litter as they dont store it properly,

Sounds to me like eclampsia and she needs veterinary help urgently. It is one of the real veterinary emergencies, but reacts extremely well to treatment.

It could be Eclampsia, a serious lack of Calcium. this is a veterinary emergency, but after administering special Liquid Calcium the change can be almost miraculous. You may have to keep up supplements until the pups are eating a good amount of other food.

Is she panting a lot, and looking wild eyed,and staring into corners of the room. be careful of the pups as some bitches will get very confused and carry puppies around, or try to bury them.

Oh god nightmare.
Ithought it was eclamsia but the symptoms arrived so quickly.
within an hour of being fine she was in a right state.
Just back from vets now after 2 hour intravenous injection.
I dont think shes right.
From being a devoted mum 5 hours ago she has no interest. so here i am feeding all night . Thank everyone.

Could be low blood sugar as well as calcium - try dilute condensed milk (not evaporated) or glucose tablets)

thanks but the vet did lab tests.
this is all thats shown up.
Since comeing home she has now feed pups a couple of times herself.
Vet was not sure if i should hand rear pups now anyway but i think she will be better doing it if she can.

I'm so glad she's feeling better. Don't you wish they could tell you exactly what's wrong, when it's wrong? Dog's are very good with non verbal communication, but it would sure be a lot easier if they knew how to speak english as their second language!

Problem with Dolly is she is not for wingeing.
Ionly new there was something wrong when she was really ill.

Does the vet know what was wrong with her? It must have been very frightening for you. Good luck.
