is it ok to use savlon to dip newborn puppies tummy cords in? what do i do after i have done that? ive heard you need to tie it with dental floss but is this nessisary?

I've never had to do anything to their cords at all! The bitch breaks them (if she won't, then grip hold of the cord between fingers and thumbs and tear it with your thumbnails, taking care not to pull the pup by the cord). I was taught never to cut them, but always to tear - that way the end seals itself. Mind you, I've never had to intervene at all - it's best if the bitch does it all herself. I've never had to tie the cords (pups born at vets don't have it done) and I've never dipped.

Hi, it is important to keep the cords dry. Usually I dont have to do anything, but always keep Sterzac Powder in whelping kit in case any cords need attention.
