I posted on here the other day about my 10month old dobermann puppy....but I got his age wrong...I have checked the dates and he is 8 months old...any way....just measured him and at the bottom of his neck, top of his back he is 29 inches tall...is this big for a dobermann of this age?...and how tall he get much bigger??
Charley

According to the breed standard for Dobermanns :
Ideal height at withers: dogs: 69 cms (27 ins); bitches: 65 cms (251/2 ins). Considerable deviation from this ideal undesirable

But is Charley taking the mesurment from the right place I ask my self?
Regards, John

Hmm yes ..I wondered ..but she does say base of the neck
If a dog is a certain height by 10 months does that mean he won't grow any more? I've been told pointers take 2 years to mature.

I wouldn't have thought at 10 months he'll get very much
taller, maybe a bit. What he will do over the next 18 months or so is fill out and muscle up - basically develop properly to look adult.

She did say he is actually only 8 months

But Lorelei said 10 months.....
That's me getting confused (not difficult)! At 8 months I would think he has some more to go!

If you measure from the top of the shoulder blade you may lose an inch or so.
I know, but I was thinking about Morse instead of the dobe ( funny I think about Morse a lot, cos I'm a soppy new owner)

Thanks for all your replys...I think if I had got it the measurment wrong...it would only make an inch diff...so that is still big for a 8 month old puppy...I would have though.
He hasnt got alot of filling out to do either...as he has already filled out!!!.....mmm....maybe I will stop feeding him!!!...not!!!..lol
He doesnt look scorny at all.
Any of you dobie owners out there, also have your dobe sit on the settee...well there bum on the settee...and there front legs on the floor...is this a dobe thing, or do all dogs do it??..he also does this on the stairs.

depends on what dog for topping in growth, for example a lot of bandogs mastiffs and ambull only finish fully growing at certain by around 3 years old.my bandog hasnt finished height growing and he is a 12months old.i expect him to finish growing at bout 18 months for height and stop filling out at 3.f cos the first year is the fastest growth at rate of 10 pounds a month for bandogs and ambull depending on what line they are so end up being average of 100 pounds the first year then very slowly adding weight after
Don't know about Dobe's, but my eldest Munster sits on my knee like that!(and the chair, and the big cuddly toys, etc....) I think it's her way of saying 'look at me, aren't I clever'
