How far should you go in vetting a new home for one of your puppies? Am I unusual in thinking that any puppies my bitch may have should go to clean, loving homes with owners who treat them as part of their family?
Most definately they should go to the best homes !! :) Besides being clean and with enough space to provide for a dog you should also be satisfied that the potential owners will provide the right loving relationship with pup !! I would be terrible if I had puppies as I dont think anyone would be good enough for me :) You can never do too much research into a new home and any suitable owner-to-be will understand your probing/vetting. Lel
I think my first question would be how did the prospective owner find me?
If through a friend (I would know they had at least some of the qualities I would look for because my friends know what I'm like)
If through the stud dog owner (I would expect the same care as I would put into vetting)
If through my vets (I would expect the same knid of consideration)
If through an advert ( I would check everything I possibly could about them, and I mean everything)
But I think the first thing would be my gut instinct (If I don't like them that;s it regardless of who they are)
But I would think "clean" is a matter of opinion too clean might mean a dog might not let the house etc.
First trust your instinct I would say, then put them under a spotlight and try chinnese water torture :) to determine their suitablity for one of your babies.
If you visit a home and the place is spotless then will the prospective new owners cope with a puppy ? Puppies will make mess and if they are so house proud will they be able to tolerate the mess and destruction that is bound to happen when getting a puppy ! There are a lot of unwanted dogs due to the owners not realising what owning a puppy or a dog can really mean to a clean and tidy house.
Just a thought ! :)

hi andi,my babies new owners will be asked many questionse.g lifestyle, do they work etc do they have the capacity to cope with a certain breed (mine are mastiffs)as not all people can cope with a huge sometimes dominate breed with big personalities. My litter have been discussed before my bitch was mated and interest gathered from other doggy people i.e at shows, training classes etc and the stud i used is at the top of his breed and one of the finest examples around.JUST BE CAREFUL AND BREED ONLY FOR VERY GOOD REASONS AND NEVER FOR MONEY!!!! hope you find some really good homes but always be prepared to take back your puppies if it does not work out with their new owners,if you bring puppies into this world it is our duty as good breeders to take care of them.. good luck and regards!!!

Thanks to everyone for your advice - just to point out when I said clean I didn't mean fanatical I just meant no iron old beds in the garden or bowls of days old food etc.
