What on earth is a buddy glowball? Sounds awful!
By Mair
Date 28.05.01 21:27 UTC

Its like a pale lemon/ glow in the dark, medium sized, pliable, lightweight, rubber ball and Scarlet really loved it. I usually buy the heavy rubber type balls but she can easily take chunks off them (and we only use them when out on walks - she's not allowed to sit chomping on them in the house). She has got other kong toys but she really enjoys ball games, (I bet you think I'm really sad, but this ball looked better than any of the others I've seen in the stores at present).

Wow.....can't imagine any of my hounds wanting to chase a ball on their walks!!!!!!!!
Far too many interesting smells to investigate than to waste time entertaining the human!!! with party tricks!!!!!
By Mair
Date 29.05.01 17:37 UTC

My Vizslas are multi-talented and love to do both!!! - and Scarlets not just "entertaining me", in fact I find it odd that your dogs don't enjoy it too!
By sam
Date 29.05.01 21:21 UTC

you have obviously never owned a pack of working hounds then!!!!!!!!!
By Mair
Date 30.05.01 07:56 UTC

Obviously not! - Just looking to be able to do with my dog what "MY" dog enjoys doing, we're not looking to join the next hunt pack just simply want to play a game of ball, any probs with that?
By sam
Date 30.05.01 19:16 UTC

no probs, just telling you about my lot thats all. Sorry if you have a problem with working hounds.
At home, their favorite game is to dismantle the poultry drinkers & play "frisbee" with the bottom half!!!!! They all have their little ways......tolerance is a big asset!

Who said I had a problem with working hounds, not me! although, I do take exception when people make remarks about me performing "party tricks" with my dogs for self satisfaction, I'm not making my dogs jump through hoops of fire for goodness sake, just enjoying a simple, fun (for both parties) ball game, where's the harm in that.

Date 30.05.01 21:06 UTC
Mair - I quite agree. Playing ball is not performing "party tricks". My dog is a retriever so like to have something in his mouth at all times. I own numerous balls including footballs and he enjoys our games a great deal. I even got a "wiggle giggle" ball for my GSD I had - admittably he destroyed it within a few weeks LOL. I am intrigued by this buddy glow ball and will look out for one for my dog to play with - that is not when he is too busy doing his party trick of singing and dancing for my entertainment ! ;-) Good Luck in your search for one. Hello Sara, I've got numerous balls of all shapes and sizes too, but the last one I aquired was by asking my Vet to order it in for me after I saw it on the leaflet which came with a dental kong I'd bought. Well, when the thing arrived it was like a huge cannon ball, it's absolutely rock hard! Scarlet's not too interested in it, but my kids love it - just worry that they might knock each other out if they decided to try throwing it about!!!!!!
By sam
Date 31.05.01 07:46 UTC

none, I was simply stating that to my hounds, chasing a coloured ball would be more for my entertainment than theirs & they would consider it a party trick!!

Hi Mair.
All my dogs work (hunt) but given half the chance they will pick up anything that they can find to carry and that includes balls. One of their favourites is a Frisbee ....not very conducive to good gundog practises tho :-) lol

I often train "The Flower" next door to some tennis courts. "Hunting up" tennis balls is her favourite pastime.
John
Excuse me - that judgement is rather unfair if you don't know the dog or the owner and I think extremely uncalled for. My dogs love smells and running, but they BEG me to play frisbee when we go for walks. We take the Frisbee with us to play with and we spend more time telling them to go play while they try to get us to play with the Frisbee. That's not entertaining ME with Party Tricks that's what THEY enjoy doing. Obviously YOU'VE never owned any other type of dogs. I would never judge you by what your dog liked to do why should you judge someone else.

Hi
Might not help that much, but I saw a glow-ball on https://www.petplanet.co.uk. It is £9.99 - not sure whether that is what you mean.
Good luck in your hunt.
Thanks Sally

Thanks Sally, that ball is actually made by the same co. that make the buddy glow ball, maybe I'll settle for that one instead if all else fails! (don't suppose Scarlet will appreciate my efforts after all this will she?!!)

Have you tried the company who make Kongs to see if they have anything similar. They are called Company of Animals. Think it's www.companyofanimals.co.uk.

Thanks for the site address, I paid a visit and it's a really nice site. We already have a "boomer ball" - but she's not too interested in that, likes kongs though.
Hi mair
just wanted towish yo luck, i remember previous postings and you have been after this ball for ages!
Hope the perseverance pays off!!!

Thanks - I'm persistent aren't I? (Think I'd make a good Gundog myself with all this searching and hunting I'm doing, just hope she appreciates my effort - most likely won't though!)

Hi Mair - gosh - aren't vizslas allowed to enjoying playing ball as well as "sniffing" and "hunting" when they are out a walk? I have only just rejoined Champdogs since it changed and couldn't believe how you upset Sam!!!!! Now you have me on a mission to find a glowball for you..............speak soon!
By sam
Date 31.05.01 15:18 UTC

Not upset......just surprised that dogs wanted to play ball when out for a walk thats all!!!!
I guess thats the difference between gundogs and working hounds?(By this I don't mean pet hounds that work......I really do mean "working" hounds)
By Leigh
Date 31.05.01 19:20 UTC
Sam,
So, a real "working Gundog" isn't a real "worker" if they enjoy a game with a ball when they are not "working" then ??!!
ROTFLOL
Leigh :-)
By sam
Date 31.05.01 21:20 UTC

I cetainly NEVER said that Leigh, just read a bit more carefully as this is getting a bit silly. All you gundog chaps obviously find your gundogs like going for walks with their balls!!!!! All I am saying is that my working hounds don't. There is no problem with that is there?
How can you possibly pick a fight over that? I am not criticising your dogs in anyway, just pointing out the difference between your gundogs & my hounds.......stop being so touchy!
By Twills
Date 01.06.01 00:31 UTC
I think that if you re-read my posting you will see that I was teasing you Sam :-)
If I had intended to "pick a fight" (!) you would have known about it...lol
Your postings come across that your hounds are superior to everyone else's dogs purely because they "work".
I was pulling your leg and just trying to lighten the situation :-)
Leigh :-)

Okay - some dogs get walked in the park etc and I would assume a ball might help exercise them - make them run about that is! My Vizsla is a pet and I don't take a ball out a walk but then I never have with any dog. He LOVES a tennis ball in the garden though and will spend ages "searching" for it - infact I think he would make a good drugs dog! Not many people have "real working hounds"!! And as all dogs are different, I was just surprised you were a bit hard on Mair! If Scarlet is into plahing ball on a walk, then I don't see the problem. I am sure that everyone who throws a ball for a dog isn't doing it to "entertain themselves" - the dog wouldn't go after it if it didn't want too. Mine sees it as a real game for me not to let him see where I throw it - it only takes him seconds to find it and I get fed up before he does - and he's only 5 months.

Welcome back Shirley! I do the majority of my exercising in my local woodlands (we practically live on the doorstep of the woods). When we are in the woods I don't use the ball because Scarlet is too busy "hunting" the squirrels, but as soon as we emerge onto the open land, she'll bark like mad at me awaiting the appearance of a much loved ball (heaven help me if I forget to bring one out with me!)

hi,
probably a little late now as it sounds like you already got one! but we bought our boxer one from tescos at 6.99 in the pet section. (he doesnt like it though! so we put it in his food bowl to stop him guzzling!!!!) :-) hope this is of use! nikki

I bought 3 of these from our local pet shop for our springers and they love playing with them in the dark, one of the reasons was because one of my dogs is virtually blind but he can see light and dark by throwing one of these light up balls it allows him to play just like the others and he doesnt feel left out.

Thanks, I did manage to get hold of a glow ball.......but unfortunately, Scarlet "killed" it within weeks!!!! ;)

Hi all
Having met Mairs' Vizsla dogs I would like to say what wonderful representatives of the breed she owns. They are an absolute joy to have around, yes they do like to play ball but also like to do their own thing if they prefer. If only all dog owners took a leaf out of the way Mair looks after her dogs then the strays, rescue kennels would be empty.

Yes you're right Sara - off to Corfu for two weeks tomorrow!!! - will miss the dogs, but luckily I made loads of doggie friends over there (they have what they call "free dogs", and one dog in particular really took a shine to me, couldn't move for her! - she slept under my sunbed, and even saw me off when our coach left to come home......hope she'll still be there, wonder if she'll remember me from last year?!) ;)
