We have a 12 week old Weimaraner pup who was ill several weeks ago. Apparently he swallowed some rocks which scratched his colon causing a high fever and meningitis. Lots of tests and exrays were taken because he could not stand on his own for several days. The vet feared he had Spinal Dysraphism which can be transferred from generations past in Weimaraners. He improved and was great for three weeks but is now showing the same signs. Have you ever heard of this? We have not taken him back to the vet as of yet. Will on Monday. Not sure if this is the case or if he ate another rock. Any info would be helpful.

How terrible for you.

We have lots of people on here all owning Weimaraners. Someone may be able to offer some advice. I heard one lady on here the other week saying her dog had Meningitus. So you may have something in common.
I do feel for you I really do.
The only thing I have heard of to do with Weimaraners going off their feet is due to vaccination reactions. I would seriously look into that. Also swelling of the head, high temperature. Give me an e-mail if you would like to my e-mail address is

Have you contacted your breeder to let them know. As they may of heard something very similar before now.

Hi Guest
Are you in the UK ? I have a 5 year old weimaraner who had meningitis twice as a pup. Do a search on here and put in Meningitis and Claire B as the poster and you'll no doubt find what I have already posted :-)
If he is showing signs again then you mustn't delay and get him to the vets NOW!! Let us know how you come on. Fingers crossed :-) And just remember Meningitis is not necessarily the end of the road but speed is essential, my bitch was really ill with a temp of 104 degrees but she recovered, slowly but surely. :-)

Thanks for the info. No we are in the USA. We took the pup to the vet today. This time we don't believe meningitis is the case. He is on a bland diet and medication for eating a house plant! My husband and I were worried because he showed the same signs as before. We are already so attached.
Thanks again.
