Topic Dog Boards / General / Cost of Chipping.
- By Bracken [gb] Date 10.08.03 17:05 UTC
Hi all,

Could anyone tell me the current cost of microchipping?

I have 6 dogs and intend to get them all chipped anyway, regardless of how much its going to cost but Im just curious.

Hi Bracken

It depends on who does it.

The charge is generally between £10 and £30

I charge £15 and hope to recoupe my initial outlay costs over about 10 years <g> as I mostly only do my own pups, friends dogs and any at shows I go to who want doing.

Thanks for the info Christine.

Id never considered having it done until my friends bitch went missing for a week. She was told that had she have been chipped, she would have got her back the next day. She since has been!!

So its a trip to the vets for my pack this week.

Your vet is probably going to be the most expensive option - try your local dog warden or negotiate a price in advance for doing all your dogs with your vet.

Where are you to Bracken? Here in Bristol I know of a place that does it for £8

Ask your Vet if they'll give you a discount for doing 6 in one go. Mine did. It saved a little, but still cost me £200 for 9 pups.

Hi Jenny,

I'm in Carmarthen, Wales. The vets fees are not usually extortionate out here but I think I will take Christine's and LindyLou's advice and ask if they will do them a bit cheeper for 6 dogs. £8 would be fantastic though!!!

It might be worth trying the NCDL as well, they have done a few "road Shows" up here., chipping for about £10 - if you have a NCDL centre close they may do you a deal?
bye

There was recently an advert in our petfood store about microchipping - reduced rates for pensioners. I think I ought to take my mother and get her done....!!:D:D

Maybe I could get my 4 children done too................:D

Dog wardens did 2 of mine, one fine the other one can't be found anywhere, so wasn't much help when she went missing. Just a good job that she found her way to my parents 2 weeks later.

I have just had our last 2 done and it cost £22.50 for each dog from our vets, I did have to go back with one though because it fell out.

Do you have a local NCDL? They sometimes do microchipping sessions at a cheap rate. They recently advertised this being done at a local park. It was £10 or if you were on benefits it was free. I took my pup along and when I got to the tent the guy asked me if I was on benefits, to which I replied no. He asked me if I had children, and I told him I had 2 to which he replied no charge. So I got her chipped for free. The dog that is not my little girl:D So worth a call to them.
