Hi All,

My mother has rather irrensponsably let her X bitch have a litter of puppies, She didnt know about the pregnancy untill a few weeks ago and 2 days ago the litter of 3 was born. She is completley unprepared and im not sure she will know how to take care of them.

As many of you know i have a beautiful 5 Month old Miniature Schnauzer Pup Monty who i went to great lengths to find and i was fully prepaired when i got him (its paid off too!)

I have managed to get her to put the bitch and her 2 pups (1 died) into a whelping box which is more comfortable. What can you suggest i get her to read re: the care and protection of them. I have tried talking to her but i feel some literature would be better. Im very worried as she has just talked about taking the pups outside in a couple of days! Now i know this can not be done they are not strong enough to combat the stress let alone any disease!

Where can i find good clear reading material about the development and care, can anyone suggest a book or a website. Ive had a look but i cant really find that much!

Help!

Thanks, Roxanne.

I know nothing personally about breeding but I have seen "The Book Of The Bitch" recommended loads of times on this site, I'm sure Amazon stock it, if not try Crosskeys Books instead

All the very best

Can you not take the mum and the pups for a few weeks? The move might upset her, it depends how well you get on with her, but it might be better for her to be with someone who recognises the hard work...especially when those pups become a handful... ?

Thanks for your replies.

I couldnt take the bitch and the pups, i have a dog and a pup myself and it just wouldnt be fair on any of them, Also i dont think my mother would want to give them up.

Ill take a look at that link thankyou.
