Not a very nice topic, I know, but here goes...

My 16 weeks old GSP has had a dose of the runs since yesterday. (I've attributed it to a gradual change in diet)

However, they (the faeces) have started becoming a funny colour... I'd describe them as kind of Spinach coloured and I'm concerned re this.

Has anyone else experienced this? or is anyone qualified to guess what may be causing it?

I'm intending to take him to the vet in the morning if they haven't subsided, but I was just wondering in the meantime....

Has he had access to any coloured food/treats?

One of my girls got hold of a packet of red coloured treats (by opening a sliding cupboard door 4' off the floor!) some time ago and her faeces were bright pink

It could be a number of things. A lot of dogs get that problem in the heat, as do a lot of humans.
Also, pups can get green faeces anyway.Like babies.
To be honest, if he seems ok in himself, is eating and drinking ok, I wouldnt panic. I have had to clean up several lots of this coloured faeces this past week due to this heat.
Also, is he eating grass? That can contribute to it.

Hi talizman - been there slipped on that ! Morse had eaten some variegrated grass in the garden and we have had spectacular results from treat sticks so we don't use them anymore. Do you use cheese as a training treat - we find it also gives spectacular runs. It took me a while to realise dog faeces start out soft and change colour as they dry and got worried about black stools until I realised they were drying out, so ur not alone.

As far as I'm aware, he hasn't had any different treats etc that the green faeces could be attributed to.

There is a possibility that he has eaten some grass, and as I never realised that the heat etc could effect them too.

They are still pretty runny though, so if they aren't solid by tomorrow, I'll take him to the vet.

I've had to clear up a complete poo made of a wad of undigested grass today.
Saffy pup is fine in every other way, but she must have felt a bit sick cos of the heat...(aint we all?)..and eaten a tummy full.
Must admit, I've never seen a whole pile of it passed like that....hardly any poop...just grass.
Anyone else seen this?

Oh, yes, indeed, and coughed up on the carpet! Morse thinks he's a friesian not a pointer as he has to nibble grass when out but after the zebra grass incident has moderated his intake:D

Do you walk him through fields with cows? My pup just so loves the nice fresh juicy cow pats! Now I thought cows had several stomachs and always digested grass well which accounts for the state it comes out having been digested by a cocker spaniel tum! I always wonder why I beat myself up about giving them food that appears to upset them when I realise its probably all the **** they eat when out! How can a dog turn their nose up at dog biscuits and then go lick the top off a cow pat? Yuk!
