Hello! My dog just had a litter of puppies and unfortunatley it was her last. She means everything to me and I want to make sure the puppies recieve the best. I would like to create a contract but i don't know what to put into it. I would like to include in the contract something saying that if they can't keep the puppy would they please return it to me. I will also add as much info about the puppy and the breed as possible. Is there anything else I should add? Please help me! Thanx.

I keep my contract and info/details seperate. The contract is a single sheet, with space for signatures at the botom and simply states the name, date of birth colour (and microchip no if chipped) plus the sum paid and date. It then says the pups are sold as pets, no breeding or show purpose etc. It includes that pups should be returned to us if for any reason they cannot be kept (of course, this is not legally binding, once they have paid the pup is theirs). Wording on potential show pups contracts a bit different.

The puppy care details runs to 3 pages, inc.ludes a 'potted history ' of the breed, health care details (worming & flea teatment details, vaccinations etc) with advise to consult their vet on ongong treatments. Feeding regime current and whilst growing, coat care and grooming details, basic pup settling in equipment and helpful advice including the adivsability of continuing insurance.. Also included are details on hereditary problems in the breed, and another reminder that if they need to part then let us know. Finish off by asking them to keep in tlouch, that we will give help and advice any time, and are always glad to have a chat about the pup. I also include a "puppy photo file" with pics of mum, dad, grandparents (all uslually in show coat) and mum with litter - usually at a couple of days and then a few weeks old.

Hope this is helpful as a starting point - it seems to work well, and several puppy owners have said their vets have ccommended it on being the most comprehensive and useful one they have seen.

bye
Gwen
