Hi Guys
Have just started my course on canine psychology.Answered the first question ok 3 pages long.Neeed a wee bit help on the second not answers only pointers.
Question
Discribe four situations to which you would want to introduce a puppy.Explain briefly the purpose of each and indicate possible conseqences if these introductions do not take place. This should not include basic training such as lead, sit or coping with being alone.

Are they looking for something like in introduction to load nosies ,their for would be able to cope with fire works?
Linda the more mature student
Many thanks for your help.

Hi Linda, Good luck with the course (who are you studying with BTW?) Do you have a tutor you can ask? It might be better than asking Champdoggers who aren't aufait with the course and may inadvertently give you a 'bum steer' :(

Hi Linda

They didn't have that question I don't think when I did the course.

Cars
Vets
Walking on different surfaces
Different Foods
Being groomed/handled (and other people being able to handle your dog)
Other dogs
various livestock
various environments (inlcuding boarding kennels/woods/open fields/beach/crowded towns?)

Does this help?

Hi Linda what about introducing the pup to children of all ages so he isn't frightened of their hgh pitched noises and abrupt actions and is relaxed with children in later life. I also think about men with beards and people carrying umbrellas......Good luck with your essay.

....or women with beards , it'll cope with anything after that :D

Hi Linda,
Ladies in hats and floaty dresses, men with beards, people taking off motorcycle helmets (one old dog's particular horror!), and importantly, people of different races (this is a multi-cultural society, after all!)
:)

Hi Linda
How about post and delivery men?

Traffic and transport

Different ages of children and the elderly

People wearing hats (my old Labs pet hat - amongst many :D)

Different floor surfaces

Loud noises - gunfire, fireworks, children!

Different dogs, big and small, young and old, nice and grumpy

Good luck!

When we took our small pup to the town centre for socialising (in our arms) we realised she wasn't keen on teh train that ran through the town centre, so we went and sat at the train station for 1/2 an hour while they went by, and then actually took her on the train for a couple of stops and back. From then on she was fine.
