Hi

As a new owner of an import register breed can someone please explain to me how the breed is taken off of this register and placed in the normal register, there seems to be no set rules and some breeds seem to be taken off the register with very limited blood lines available and no new puppies coming out, the Finnish Laphund being one, whereas the spanish water dog seem to have various lines available and new pups coming out as does the bracco, can anyone explain how it works.
cheers

What a very good question. Though, Leigh correct me if I'm wrong, the Bracco's are going to be coming off soon!! It's been wonderful recently because we've had large no's. of Spanish and Bracco's competing and I know with the Spanish that more puppies are out over the next few months. It's a bit disheartening when you go to champ. shows where your breed has got more entries than some of the breeds with classes and we're at some shows paying exactly the same as everyone else.

There does at times seem to be one rule for one and another for the others.

I've just been told recently why they were thinking of taking us off the gundog group, although I won't put the reason on here!!! Oh well, we'll keep plodding on, but we are, I think going to try and come off the import register.

What breed do you have?

I think its how many and often they are shown which makes a difference. So if you want them off the register quickly get everyone who has one to show them regularly and then they will come off lol!

The original idea for having an Import Register was to protect imported breeds from exploitation eg: new breed - quick buck to be made by breeding en masse. This has been a bit of a KC own goal because I understand that the only way to get off the IR is numbers! Having said that, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what comes off and when. Maybe it is another case of not what you know but whom.

Now, now Admin whatever would make you think that:d

Has the KC also not noticed that in some breeds what they originally set out to stop hasn't stopped. I'm glad to say that from what I can see in the Bracco's and Spanish Water Dogs case we have not really come across the people breeding and selling for big bucks!! Doesn't seem to help our case that we've kept to what they want though, but still at least we can live our lives knowing that the majority of people who have bought our dogs care about their dogs and not what they can make out of it.
