Just a quick question -
has anyone got AOL Broadband and if so did you notice an immediate change in the speed on your PC or did you have to wait for some sort of connection authorisation message thingy from AOL when you first swop over ?? ( not very good at explaining things am I ??? ) :)

Hi,
Yes I have succumbed to braodband (AOL) I took a free trial and couldn't part with it!!
It was easy to plug in and i had to wait a short while to be connected. Carried on with the old way for a while and then rang for support. I had a very nice Irish man to help and all is now well. It's eay and very quick.
Good Luck

Annie
when you say you had to wait a short while to be connected how long was this ?
Did they send an email to say you wree now connected ? The reason I ask is because mine doesnt seem any faster although the main aol screen which comes on when you sign in says broadband" ???

Hi
OOOOOOEEEERRRR
AOL! cant stand them!!!! They are overly expensive and really bad. My other half despises them too.
Same as BT broadband..another really expensive one and a waste of money.
One of the best if ADSL Pipex. That is what we have. It is £23 per month for 24/7 on the web, and very fast...plus if you recommmend someone, you get a free month.
Or you could get Plusnet or Nildram, also very good and reasonable.
Have a look at [link]www.adslguide.org[/link]
Good luck....

Sorry i have no idea what they all cost which i am glad about, luckily my partner gets all these things free through the company he works for, no wonder relatives are always asking " can you get me one of those "

Have to agree with Steph here ..we are with Freedom2Surf ..wouldn't touch AOL or BT for love nor money. We pay £22 per month for 512 ADSL . As already stated , Nildram is another very good provider ..look around and see which one suits your needs and budget before deciding :)

I have to say, I've been with AOL for years with no probs at all :) I pay £25 per month for broadband - not much more than others. It's quick and trouble free for me. I'm not sure how long I waited as I left it for a week before trying and there it was. If you have two green arrows at the bottom right of the aol screen, you should be connected. Try ringing the help line if you have probs, they are usually very helpful. :)
Melody and Steph - Why do you not like aol?

AOL has been fine for me too - it really depends on where you live as a lot of the cable companies can't provide the service. We looked into it and AOL offered the best overall package at the time. The broadband unit was with us 3-4 days after signing up and it was immediate access, all really straight forward. They also have a free-phone help line, not many of the other offer this.

AOL used to be really bad. My other half is a software engineer and said everyone at his work wouldnt touch them with a ten foot barge pole.
They used to insist that you used their own browser which was crap, and they used to take credit card details from people who signed up for the "free" trial with the cd. Then, when they cancelled cos they didnt like it, AOL would take money off their card.
£25 is better, they have been extremely expensive though. I still wouldnt use them.
Their ads make me laugh " block junk emails", "stop pop ups"....you can do that with any ISP. It is just such a con.
They claim this is all extra and really good...but you can get their service anywhere.
BT is just pathetic. I think it is £30 per month and for what?? "a name you can trust" says the woman on the advert...what is so trusting about BT??They are hideously expensive!! We dont use them for phone calls either, we use Tiscali..so much cheaper. :)

You wouldn't use Tiscali if you knew what they were like underneath - I used to work for them.
