Could anyone who has bred a weirmaraner with tails left intact, let us know if there is a viable market?
Hate tail docking but love weirmaraners!!

"viable market"

Sorry did not mean to sound like I was only interested in money, only want to ensure unwanted pups are NOT bred. Want to be responsible before breeding and ensure there are owners who would want a weirmaraner with a tail.

Hi there............i'm not sure what you mean by ''viable''.......i give the people on my waiting list a choice,so i know before pups are born, although i must admit that i do get much more requests for docked tails than un-docked.I would never look on any mating as a ''viable'' project, because those of us that know....know that so many things can (and do !! ) go wrong, and there truthfully isn't vast amounts of money in breeding if it is done properly.

What is most important with Weimaraners is having their hip scores done. All breeding dogs and bitches should be Hip scored if you really love your breed.
I own Weimaraners and breed them. I have to say I dont get many people asking for a tail. But the odd ones I do, always say if you dont have the hip scores done on the parents then I dont want one anyway. To which I reply well all my dogs and bitches are scored. New owners are becoming more aware of the health tests that have to be done. Which is great as in the end who wants to produce dogs with hip displacia.
If you are new to breeding and would like some advice on the health issues with the breed. Contact me.

Your vet is the person to talk to about health checks. Also what age a bitch is bred with is very important too. Do not breed under the age of 2. If you dont want to dock then dont. But make sure where ever you go for a stud dog you find a quality dog not just one down the road. Make sure the pedigrees tie in and you should know a lot about what type of dogs are in your pedigree not just he looks pretty he will do.
I cant stress enough that breeding should not be entered into lightly as I had someone four years ago that pestered me to let my dog mate her bitch. When finally the bitch was old enough she was thrilled and bred her bitch. When the pups were 5 weeks old the lady called me to tell me she never realised what hard work they were. Then at 7 weeks she rang again to tell me she would never ever breed again. As she never realised just what was involved.
Also check your bitch does not have breeding endorsement on her kennel club registration certificate as most good breeders are now putting endorsements on to stop breeding of their dogs and bitches.
Any advice you want just e-mail me I will happily answer.
