My husband has had his shar pei since he was 6 weeks old (i know much too young, i was'nt around then!).
He never really trained him, and let him sleep under his bed etc
Once we got together we bought a house and the dog started to be aggressive towards me (growling when i went in our bedroom) we then introduced gates to keep him downstairs.
The dog is now about 3/4 and we have had him spayed. he is still occasionally aggressive towards me, will not follow any of my commands unless he wants too and will growl at me if i try to make him go where he dos'nt want to.
We now have a house lead on him so i dont have to challenge him and i am also feeding him but he dos'nt always listen to my husband, has growled at him and once bit him when my husband tried to force him to do something. my worry is that i have a 3 month old baby now. he has not paid much attention to her but will he when she starts walking? is it safe to keep him (i would rather not). could he be re-homed. will he always be dominant?
is it true shar pei's can attack without much warning (ie will he go from growling to biting?) i am now afraid of the dog at times. please help! Thanks

Hopefully Dizzy will have had her computer prob sorted out as she will be able to advise you.

Marie will be able to as well as they are the two I know on here who have shar pei

There are several reasons he could be doing this. Firstly, he could be annoyed that his place in the 'pack' being usurped (he used to be number 2, and now relegated to number 3). This has made him feel insecure. When was he castrated?

sounds like dominance problems. can you tell me if hes a brush or horsecoat, also have you contacted the breeder about him, she might be able to help, they are a stubborn breed but a well bred one from sociable parents should never ever give you cause to worry about an attack, if you want to mail me at home your welcome.
