Hi,

My cat 'Romeo' has been killed on the road last night. He could have gone for miles in any other direction without meeting a road. The same thing happen to my old boy 'Buddy' so I kept 'Romeo' indoors for a long time but decided to let him out for a few days as it was so hot ( I feel so guilty now). I called and called him last night but he wouldn't come in. He was the most gorgeous cat ever and I will never have another like him!

That's very sad news Debbie. So sorry to hear about Romeo :( It wasn't your fault it was an accident.
Thinking of you!

So sorry to hear that, the same thing happened to me a few months back, I know how you feel. Unfortunately cats are cats and we have no control over them when they are out of sight (or in it!)

I'm really sad for you - the trouble is, that like hedgehogs and rabbits, cats aren't adapting as well to the ever-increasing fast speed and the number of cars on the roads :(. Again, sadly, some cats have been killed by owners, or neighbours, by persistantly sleeping UNDER cars, right in front of the back wheel.

Whilst our cats aren't in any danger of being run over - unless they traipse over the 3 miles up to the road, they are in danger of being run over by us - so we have to check vehicles before we get in them:)

When I was breeding persian cats, my advice to all new owners was to start as you mean to go on - responsible owners don't just open the front door & let the dog out, and they ensure that the back garden is puppy-proofed, and I've always advised cat owners to do the same, even if it does restrict your cat somewhat - and it IS difficult when cats will jump fences into next-door's garden!

All this does not help you in your sadness - but your cats did have a lovely life with you - remember them with happiness.

Regards

Margot

Hi,

Really SORRY to hear your news, I lost Archie to a car accident that was 21 years ago. He was asleep in the long grass/wildflowers in the front garden. A neighbour saw him chase a butterfly into the road which was very quite I think at the time if we saw 3 cars in a day we were overrun so he didn't expect it he was just 10 months old killed outright. But the two I got after Oscar and Cleo have lived on main roads etc a lot more streetwise and they are both 21 now but I must admit my heart goes in my mouth still if I hear screetching wheels. But cats are cats indpendant but adorable.

Sorry again about your loss,Karen

poor you :( thats very sad.
whisper is just 11 weeks old and fighting to assert her natural independant streak. I hate to confine her too much but until shes vaccinated and neutered im very paranoid about her even getting into the garden. I guess one day i'll hafta accept it if she gets out. Like someone said, it's a risk we take when we fall in love with a cat. they just love to explore.
So sorry about your loss. :(

Hi Jewel, sorry about your cat. I`ve lost 2 to cars right outside our gates & like yours they only had to stay here, we`ve got about 20 acres but no, curiosity got the better of them, think its where that saying must have come from. Another cat lost her forlimb after being caught in a trap & then later got her back leg cuaght in another one & nothing could be done for her. It`s their nature to explore & don`t think we can do much about it, so don`t feel guily.

Hi Jewel
So sorry to hear your sad news.

We have had cats all our married life, 30+ years, sometimes 4 at a time...now 2. Since one of my beloved Turkish Van Cats died last year, we have decided not to have any more cats, much as we love them. We just don't have the same control over the cats as our dogs, and I drive my husband mad by waking up in the middle of the night, and going outside at 3 in the morning, searching for a cat that hasn't come in and laid on the bed during the night. We are finding it impossible to keep them in at night this weather.

Your cat was enjoying himself, and he would have been miserable if you had stopped him going out.

These days, with people driving too fast, more traffic, lots of "cat haters", idiots who shoot and poison our lovely pets, it's not so safe to keep cats......and that's sad.

Thinking of you

So sorry to hear of your loss. I've lost 2 since I moved here 3 years ago. Josh, my remaining cat, goes nowhere near the road, but as he only goes out at night he could be anywhere. I've decided not to have another cat when he goes as I couldn't take the heartache of picking any more off the road.
