hi can any one give me some advice please, i am on the point of buying a puppy lab, i have a male 4 year old lab, but im not sure whether to get a dog or bitch, i have heard that 2 adult dogs may fight, so i decided on a bitch, but know a breeder has told me that because it will be a puppy, they will grow up together and should get on fine, i dont want to breed them, just want 2 happy labs,

Is your Male castrated?
There are some males that get on if neither are castrated, but i think it's quite rare, and as a rule, at least one should be. It's unfortunate, but two males living together can cause lots of propblems....so I think castration is a good idea if you go for another male.

In your situation, I personally would go for a bitch, and have her spayed when she's around 1 1/2. You're unlikely to have any problems this way....apart from when she has her first couple of seasons, and then, obviously you'd have to keep them apart if your male is entire.

hi, yes i think maybe a bitch would be best, my lab is entire, he is a lovely boy, so gentle, and loveing, but he is not always to good with other male dogs , he doesent like it if they growl at him, but he is not aggresive in any other way, thats why i have never had him done, also i am a bit worried it might change his nature. sue

I've never had labs but have always kept a multi-male household(only ever had one castrated) and never had any problems.I've kept GSD,cross breeds,staffies and Elkhounds.I've found that as long as theres no bitch in the house to argue over and the dogs are not too close in age its pretty peaceful.
